The uglyness does it for me..... but I guess the old saying... you dont look at the mantle piece when poking the fire applies here too...
I’ve been caught out twice by KTM. Picked up my 790R a couple of weeks ago with a decent discount, so hopefully shouldn’t lose as much on this one.
I can remember a lot of people hated the original Multi and the first of the ‘new’ generation. Lots of comments about the beak. Looks grow on people and I still stand by my point that I need to see and ride it before I make a decision. I’ll admit I’ve never ridden a GS and I don’t like the looks but I’d still like to try one rather than automatically writing it off.
the question isnt if its beatiful or not.my problem is that for me this is A NEW MODEL and not multistrada.yes, the first multi wasnt the prettiest bike BUT it had specific character.they changed all the philosophy of the model.from a sport upright bike with stunning looks to an off road focused bike with only purpose to steal sales from the gs and the sa1290... i might be wrong but i feel that it will fail...
I agree - this is the best looking of the versions - with the Enduro Pack - but those tyres do not appear to come as standard with the wire wheels? But what about probably 90% of people who use on road - maybe 99%? Maybe someone could set up a pole on how many of the NON Enduro Multistradas ever go off road..
I took my 2016 DVT off road only last year. I was leaving the MotoGP at Silverstone, there was a long queue of traffic exiting the circuit on the single track road. Despite the fact that I was not wearing Motocross style boots or a helmet with a protruding chin guard or even a peak I ventured ‘off road’ along the short cut grass past maybe as many as two dozen cars and a fully loaded GS until I got to a gate, I was then forced to reluctantly rejoin the road. Despite its size the Multi made it feel smooth and controllable, in fact it made it feel like crossing a billiard table as there were no awkward kerbs to negotiate either. Sadly there were no mud splatters over the bike for me to show off as the ground was so dry and firm. Although it was a huge success and I have been able to regale friends with my story many times over dinner, I’m not currently planning any more off road adventures.
After I bought my 1260S I toured down to Sicily. On the way a couple of times dodgy Swiss and Italian lanes turned into tracks, more than once with v muddy/rocky ruts, etc, one time on a steep-is slope downhill. I was fully laden (incl the enormous top box), in Dainese sports boots, and on the Scorpions. Not geared up at all for it. I've no real off road experience bar a few brief excursions. I have to say on any other bike I've ridden I think I'd 100% have dropped it. Ground clearance, suspension, electronics, even the tyres, did their job admirably and meant I could get away with it all, quite easily too. These are sports-adventure bikes after all, not sports tourers. To paraphrase Clarkson, your watch can go to 50m underwater and while you're never going to take it there, it's nice to know it will be fine when you leave it on in the shower...
I think you’re right to keep what you have. Beautiful flowing lines. But I think you’re wrong, the v4 is UGLY.... LIKE A PARTS BIN SPECIAL
I think it's a real shame how it looks. Even the front lower screen adding look like something from the old RT BMW. Just because it's a Ducati doesn't mean we have to buy it. As with some other things, it may look better in the flesh and ride beautifully. The road tests will be interesting. Hopefully some good comparisons with the 1260.
Yeah, gotta be honest, that looks gorgeous in comparison!! I'm thinking nice low-mileage Pikes Peak 1260 personally!
Followed one up one of the Alps passes a few month back, thought about passing him (German guy I was talking to later) just to realise he was held up by his much slower mate on an S1r. The PP 1260 was handy on the hairpins. Not bad for a stretched bike. I was on a 1200 tractor btw.. It seems that motorcycles are going the same way as cars. Ford Fiesta for example, starts small gets bigger and heavier..
