Ducati Ss - Super Slow - Help!

  1. That'll be the one!. stupid, stupid wire!

  2. Surge Suppression and Diodes Installation Tips

  3. when a circuit brakes down or switches off from an actuator ie solinoied or motor you get a voltage surge back down the circuit, diodes stop this. thats how fiats jtd engine gets its high voltage required to fire its diesel injectors the back emf produced when the injector circuit breaks down is stored in a capacitor and the voltage is used to fire the next. cleaver stuff. think its 50v dont quote me on this as its been 14 years since i done the coarse and i have never seen one fail yet.

  4. Funnily enough, I just had a good look at my white plug..........no extra wire or diode there......

  5. that's strange Al , I thought they'd all have them?

Bike's still a wee bit slower than it should be... tried plugs etc to no avail... wondering if it could be valves etc need a good going over! - fun!

  6. Which carbs? Which jetting? Dynojetted? Airbox mods? Which zorsts?

Were the inlet manifolds larger ID than the OEM 750 ones??

    AL

  7. Carbs - those that Yorkie had with the 750 engine
Jetting - AFAIK std jetting for the 750ss engine
Airbox Mods - run with fully opened, but it is the same with std lid
'Zorsts - tried the 2 into 2 system on std cans , tried 2 into 2 on race cans , trid 2 into 1 on both std and race too!

Manifolds are now 100% 750 ones and larger ID than the 600.

It feels nicer and is a bit more low end 'pokey' , but just feels dog slow top end wise. still only managing 110 / 115 if lucky.

    Very strange

  8. Be interesting to note which jets are in the carbs and if Dynojetted or not......

...I think you might need to look in there.....ie which needles, springs and which main jets, plus which needle clip position.

If you fit standard airbox cover, then fit the trumpets, does it make any difference?

Running with the open airbox on standard jets, it will be running with a weak mixture.......

  9. I'll rip the carbs out Saturday! The Husky is off the road (fried clutch) and it'll be crap weather, so why not? :)

With / without trumpets makes little difference :(

  10. do a plug chop,i would also check the ignition and valve timing.

  11. Well, SL cans fitted , bog std airbox with BMC filter ... and it pulls like a train and is much nicer to ride :) - Still a tad slower than I'd hoped for but I can work with that.

Out of interest, what is a reasonable top speed for the 750 - It might be that my old one was faster than most!

  12. Mine has read 125 on the speedo.........so as yours is yellow, I guess 110 might be somewhere near........

........but FFS we can see you don't live at home any more............paint that bl**dy shed!!!

  13. Oh well this pulls 120 easy! And I would paint it, but it is 'camo' no one suspects what's behind a skanky garage door ;)

  14. I say easy, only today with the new found good set up does it manage it.

  15. what gearing on the sprockets do you have
believe some drop the front sprocket 1 tooth for better acceleration etc
at a loss of top end

  16. Standard gearing at the moment - I simply ordered the standard sizes when I was rebuilding the bike. Might try a larger front sprocket If I can cram it in!

  17. If your pulling max revs in top gear with std gearing you cant be far off.

  18. If you still have concerns, get it on a dyno ;-)

  19. If all you guys reckon its acceptable, I'll accept it then start the quest for more via aftermarket bits!

  20. Why do you want it any quicker anyway?........

......I'm just happy using the acceleration and cruising at 70mph (cough)..............
