Ducati Track Day - Silverstone 28th July

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Bazz, Apr 2, 2015.

  1. pray tell why?

  2. I always had more fun riding smaller bikes around tracks. You can concentrate on your lines more rather than worrying about controlling the 1299's massive power. An 899 will hold its line slightly better and you can use all of its power coming off the turns. Even Carl Fogarty uses an 899 on the track and if it's quick enough for him...........

  3. Cheers, useful information

Ps, why havent you got a 400ss then?

  4. exactly.....

  5. Used to have a CBR400. Brilliant round Mallory and Cadwell but not enough everywhere else.

  6. I don't want to learn anything. Just go fast! Learning is for pussies

  7. why would one have more fun on an 899; I'd rather spend the extra and go for the 1299 myself...

  8. If you have the experience and expertise or want to improve, then that is the answer for you. If I were looking to change my 748RS, my choice would be the 899 because I no longer have the ability to stop my arse from leaking brown adrenalin when things get hairy so for me the less aggressive acceleration and slower speed is more appropriate. We as Ducati riders are blessed with a great range of bikes that provide the answer for almost very taste, skill level and aspiration :upyeah:. Andy

  9. For a novice rider it helps starting on a less powerful bike. I'm glad I learned on a 400, admittedly 15 years ago and on just my 2nd track day I was bumped up into the fast group! I'm not a naturally gifted rider, I just listened, followed and learned from the experts, learning quickly due to not having to struggle with a bike that was too much for me. It was pretty satisfying taking the scalps of R1's and Fireblades on such a little bike. Once you have honed your skills that is the best time to move up to a bigger bike.
