Postcode is EX2 but in the end, the cost wasn't bad at all. I did buy a coil I didn't actually end up needing but it did seem very likely to be the problem and it's a better, later version so the 25 quid it cost was a worthwhile gamble. Chrisw pointed me at a later 848 ecu on eBay at only 70 quid and he was extremely generous about reflashing it for my 999. Denzil was very helpful over the coil and Lee, Fin and Derek were great at helping me to narrow it down to the ecu with test light and multimeter with CR and others providing support and encouragement throughout.
