Dumb Motorways

  1. Inadvertently played fuel gauge bingo on the Multistrada to find that the range to empty is very accurate. Fortunately made it up the slip road to a very convenient supermarket petrol station, just off jct 12 of the M4, with the engine struggling on the last remaining drops of fuel. It has started to splutter less that a mile back and only made it by the old wiggle to move the remaining fuel trick.

  2. I tried that, mine died with no warning whatsoever! How many miles did you achieve, mine was 185 miles to empty.

  3. Why would you not monitor a motorway with no hard shoulder that’s just lunacy and bloody scary too

  4. Running out of fuel in a modern car can get expensive, misfires can destroy the catalytic converter.
In general it is not advised to let the tank get lower than 1/4 full.

  5. I’m not sure on the intricate details. But I was on site with one of our contractors yesterday who do a whole range of ‘things’ shall we say.

Speaking to the head techy bloke funnily enough about smart motorways and he was saying that the monitoring side is something that they’ve been involved with. Now please don’t quote me on this but he insinuated that its a totally shit system and the whole project has been plagued with issues. Including apparently things like it missing vehicles that are plainly obvious..

  6. I don't recall exactly, it was an 'accidentally experiment', I think it was less than yours. Was only just past first service so probably still a bit tight.

  7. "Smart motorways should be abandoned so "more serious injuries or fatalities" can be avoided, a Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has said."

So this should mean two weeks of "strenuous rejections continuing apace" followed by cancellation of all smart motorways which "must have been Labours fault".

  8. Matthew Scott, PCC for Kent, has stated smart motorways are not safe.
    And need reviewing.
Needs a few more PCC’s to make these statements, you can e mail your PCC and plant the seed.
I recently contacted Mr Scott about the lack of Bikesafe training in the county.
In fairness it’s not his remit, but he forwarded my question to the relevant person and I got a reply.
Bikesafe should be starting up again later this year.
