1200 DVT Dvt Clatter/rattle

  1. Thanks for the suggestions, when you get something like this you do start to wonder if you're imagining it, or it's something really obvious. That's why I was reassured when Snell's replaced the cat (not cheap) because it's that kind of hollow noise and I can see why the warranty guy went for that - also I'm pretty sure he would recognise chain slap.
I did hear some good stories about flapping rucksack straps and gravel stuck in tyres - I wish mine was that easy to explain. I'm going to rig up my go pro and try and record it although I'm not sure how it good the sound will be.

  2. I'm still on the chain slap side :)

  3. Well ive been reading this thread over the last few days. I have got a new 1200s slight oil leak after 200 miles so was in dealers. They loaned me a 1200 which i rode for 2 days before ringing to complain that i should have been loaned a like for like bike. They then exchanged it & gave me a 1200s. Long story short. My bike 200 miles, the 1200 250 miles & the loan 1200s nearly 2000 miles in 2 weeks. They all have many things in common. 1st they all rattle bang backfire judder lurch & sound like someones stomach with ulcers. 2nd they are the most enjoyable machines on the planet to ride. Pull out to overtake quickly & they launch like a missile. Smooth clutch, brakes, gearbox, suspension. Yes at low revs they are a bitch & don,t like it even though the DVT is better than previous. So don,t labour it, give it some throttle it won,t break.

  4. Mine doesn't really labour at what I would call low revs, 3k plus.

  5. Apologies for going off-topic, but no dealer is obligated to provide a like for like replacement, or indeed any replacement at all. The fact that they actually gave you a similar model is pretty bloody good, and then upped it again is bloody amazing customer service.

I speak as someone that bought a brand new Noble M12 GTO3 which blew up it's gearbox within 2 months of use and was given a Smart car for one week, followed by a Jeep for another week, after which I had nothing for a whole month while it was away. Needless to say I started litigation at which point I learned that there is no legal responsibility for the seller nor the manufacturer to provide you with anything whilst they initiate a repair.

At 2K rpm I don't believe many Ducati engines 900cc and above enjoy being giving a gut-full of gas at what is just off tick-over. An additional 1K rpm makes all the difference and 3K rpm is hardly reving the tits off it and the DVT pulls hard and clean from there since the new maps come out in the middle of last year.

  6. It is beyond me why anyone would ride their bike at 2k revs then find it poor that it may judder or not be as smooth when they whack the throttle open

  7. With respect, I don’t think people are talking about wacking the throttle open in this instance :upyeah:

  8. Yep get that. But principle is the same: it's 2k revs so barely ticking over. :)

  9. Agree at 2000- it no good. I find bare min 2750 to 3000. My problem is just part chopped my 2016 z1000 sx which could tootle in top at 30mph & pull away pretty smooth.

  10. yeah, but what would you rather have...its all about compromise :upyeah:

  12. crikey... I've ridden twins for years but even on an il4, I'd never be above 3rd at 30 (really I'd never be above 2nd)

  13. Yep, 2nd in a 30 and 3rd in a 40 otherwise the revs just get too low, although mine isn't a DVT.

  14. Faulty logic there, with the clutch pulled you no longer have pulses of energy going to the rear wheel via the chain.

  15. bradders, I had a go on my mates 1000xr and was well impressed with the grunt in its engine from as little as 2,000 rpm.
    Still prefer my Multi though.

  16. Even my k5 gixer would. Soulless tho ;)

  17. Pah, 2k revs, that's nothing!

My carburated '98 R1 would start in 6th gear all the way to max revs and speed from tick over, 2 up with a fortnights worth of camping kit, while balancing a cup of coffee on the petrol cap.

Riders today etc..........I may have made that up?

Always found that any of these big V/L engines (inc Honda SP2) aren't happy below 3k rpm and the chain lash can be savage.

  18. Above, spot on.

  19. Does the clatter /popping occur after closing the thotter. My 15 plate dvt mutleu seems to do it more after the last update and seems to use slightly more fuel as well. Is this just back firing?
