999 Early 999r Question

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by yev, Mar 5, 2015.

  1. Mines Jan '03 too - this is maybe the earliest build date for R's - unless someone knows different?
It's a pity they didn't fit the plaques in order.

  2. what colour is your subframe? mine is grey , but right now there is 999r grey frame for sale on ebay with black subframe? confusing...

  3. The early grey subframes were prone to crack so it's probably been replaced with the later black one at some point.

  4. The Fila's had Black, standard were Grey - my 2001 prototype however has a black one but this was repainted by Ducati Corse in 2006 ;)

  5. just been looking over . it is covered in carbon head to toe. the only thing missing is exhaust heat shield of any kind. i recon i need to get carbon one to match. to save me hours of research can anyone recommend the closest match carbon make to the rest of the fairing? found this one Ducati Performance Carbon exhaust heat guard for 749R 999R 999S 999 96951503B DE | eBay
but it looks matt and the rest of the carbon on the bike is gloss??? what do you think? also fixing bolts are not there. anyone got link to correct bolts with washers i need to get? thanks!!!

  6. also, bike been kindly delivered with pair of brand new tires. but the rear one is 180. can it be right? i thought they were meant to be 190 on 999r?

  7. 180 back tyres on 749 and 190 on the 999.

But, I know a few 999 riders that dropped to 180 to help the bike drop in to corners easier.

  8. That's an original DP part and they aren't quite matte but can't be described as "shiny" either... :) You use the existing bolts etc.

  9. don't have existing bolts. do you know size by any chance?

  10. Had a 999r Fila rep for a summer, sold it to buy my 749r 2004 :upyeah: In my mind the 2004 749r is rarer, and possibly more special than a 999r ... In my opinion

  11. If you want it shiny, buy some clear gloss lacquer from local car shop and spray it.

Bolts are not standard bolts, they are large dome head Allen socket bolts, with fibre heat resistant washers. Best bet is get the correct bolts from a dealer, won't be expensive.

  12. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

    But not that one.

    :)

Kidding really, plenty of people feel the same way you do. They're wrong, too :D

  14. I'm sure the 2004 749r was an homologation model bike, as such it's very close to the bikes that were raced. The 999r was "just" a special .... That's if any R can be called just a special.

  15. Just spotted a thread for a 749r being broken, this will have the carbon exhaust cover and hopefully the correct bolts etc.

You need to make sure you get the correct exhaust outlet holes to suit your exhaust, the race pipes have larger oval outlet than the standard pipes.

  16. yeah, spoke to fella, doesn't want to break exhaust essembley up. only will sell exhaust with carbon
