Only stayed one night. Nice hotel just up the bank. two minutes walk to bars, restaurants etc. Cracking bar in the middle. Stayed here 2017 (with Mrs J biker) . Bike was parked outside but would do so again and not worry.http://hotel-burgfrieden.de Smaller village gets bikers during day, ferry crossing, but not far to one of many bridges over Moselle... Passed through the village again 2018 enroute to other lodgings and it still looked good. Not a pub crawl job but very pleasant. Nice road up the hill....
Cant help with hotel recommendations but maybe worth checking out Bernkastel-kues. Nowhere along the river between Koblenz and Trier has number of restaurants as Cochem. Bernkastel comes a close second. Old town with quirky narrow streets lined with fabulous old buildings. Riverside many cafes and restaurants. A magnet for tourists so plenty there.
What does everyone think about @doogalman 's suggestion of Bernkastel-kues? I think it is my favoured alternative to Cochem so far. It is on the river (unlike Bad Bertrich) but further south than Klotten, Cochem and Bellstein. It would make a change from Cochem yet it still has lots of bars and restaurants because it is a similarly pretty, touristy place. Of course it doesn't have Cochem bends. Choices, choices ... I feel another poll coming on! Thoughts? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cochem https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurants-g198637-Cochem_Rhineland_Palatinate.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernkastel-Kues https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurants-g198633-Bernkastel_Kues_Rhineland_Palatinate.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klotten https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurants-g1053688-Klotten_Rhineland_Palatinate.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Bertrich https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurants-g651910-Bad_Bertrich_Rhineland_Palatinate.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beilstein,_Rhineland-Palatinate https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurants-g642093-Beilstein_Rhineland_Palatinate.html
Sorry never saw poll, and my name was not on it, , but if it had I would also voted Ardenne I have been to loads of places in the Ardenne and tbh I always found it better to stay further east like Bouillon area, then trips all around to Luxembourg, NBR, Cochem etc. which you can route with great roads.
Sorry you missed it. I did tag you in the post but I guess you didn't see it (no-ones name was on the poll itself - everyone just added their own name). Its not too late though ... If you have a suggestion for somewhere in the Ardennes please stick it up here for discussion. It has the distinct advantage of being 2 hours nearer than the Moselle
Also stayed around Cochem area a few times, but not in Cochem. Easy pleased. South or West might save me 30 minutes on my 550 mile ride. But I plan on enjoying that too! Bernkastel Kues or Ardennes sounds good. Prefer to be on German roads to French roads when playing..now on French plates. Though the bus gets a wobble at around 125 (old money) and not sure if its panniers or tyres. Not a problem as its nearly maxed out at that anyway!
Assume all ok with sharing? Is bellstein where we went and found that dragon boat racing festival? Looked a lovely spot wherever that was
The only reference to a nearby Dragon Boat festival I can find on Google is in Briedel, but I've looked on Google Streetview and I don't recognise it :-/
Can I add my interest please... I am mates with MaDProFF, I ride in Europe with him and others... Thanks
I could certainly fancy this as a change from the Moselle if it is that good. Hopefully @MaDProFF can recommend a hotel to base ourselves in
