Ebay 851. Opinions Please?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Ian, Oct 23, 2014.

  1. Just need to confirm mileage of under 9000. The condition appears to support it.

  2. just goes to show what can be picked up with a bit of patience. You set a new benchmark for me and as seen on here, a dealer could have been double. I have a Strada as well and I was very lucky with the price but it's totally non standard and nowhere near as good condition as yours. It's the first bike for a while that makes me want to keep it forever.

  3. Tbh this is a keeper and yes I was incredibly lucky to get it. It is bog std just want to trace the history so I'm contacting Italy and joining the 851 forum etc, need to see how early it is as well as although it's reg is 1991 want to confirm it

  4. Can thoroughly recommend the Forum, there are a lot of friendly people on there with a wealth of experience.

  5. it is nice but is it me or is paintwork dull/bloomed on R/H fairing? plus it's been dropped on L/H side - no big deal but not at that price.

  6. Guess you'll never know its true history if its been imported from Japan.

  7. Christ thats cheaper than mine :) surely at that price someone will have it

  8. that's what I thought - if I didn't have one already.. - I checked out seller and seems fine but short time trading. that's going for not much more than a squeaky-clean 900SS

  9. A lot of people think they're worth £5-6k but are they really? There have been a few on eBay for around the £4k level lately so maybe that's what they're really worth? Mine was way under £4k last year and at the time I thought it was a steal, although now I've seen a few more hit the market I'm not so sure. Now I've bought it value is irrelevant as I don't plan to sell it. Some are asking around the £5-6k mark but those don't seem to sell. Maybe a genuine UK, low miles, full history bike might make the higher values but there can't be many 20 year old bikes like that.

The odd thing is that there seem to be very few 888s coming to market, just 851s.

  10. Mine was a genuine 8700 mile UK bike with history, 1990 model registered in 1991 with all owners known and serviced from new by the same mechanic until 2012, and it was £3800. Again I don't intend to sell it.

  11. If I had the pennies at the moment I would be looking to get one for around £4K as a good future prospect - they will go up massively over the next 10 years I think...

  12. Wish I had the room and the money. Love 851's. I need one in my life but the 916 and the 1198 already bleed me dry. That one looks nice too.

  13. Just ended!

  14. wasn't me :(

  15. Or me unfortunately!

  16. shut the front door!

  17. Nah not really :p
