Ebay Beware!

  1. Actually I couldn’t resist asking about classified ads :)

  2. PayPal fees! 45 quid for your sale. Plus 2.9 percent for PayPal for the hole amount including postage. More than 2.9 if the money came from abroad.

  3. That I agree used to be the case, now they are saying they take 12.8 % from the first 2500, and 3% from the remainder of the sale, I have sold a few bikes in the past, always been charged £45, now they are saying they will take hundreds!!!

  4. Classified ad's should still be the same as before looking at the eBay website as long as the ad is in the Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles categories

Fees for selling a vehicle on eBay Motors | eBay

Any ad not using Classified will now be using the new eBay only payment method which I won't be using, not a biggie for me as I hardly ever sold anything on there in the first place.

  5. Anytime now there won't be a good selection of anything motorised on eBay auctions that is a reasonable price. Sellers will look elsewhere, or add the fee to the sales price start -or reserve which ever they think best.

The number of classified ads is likely to increase.

  6. To be honest I sell a lot on Facebook now, the crap that I would have usually taken to the tip people actually want to pay money for and make the effort to come and get it too, it astounds me every time :joy:

  7. I was of the understanding eBay took 10% selling fee anyway (general stuff, not vehicles) when they moved away from listing fees for auctions, then you had to pay PayPals fee on top for any funded through bank/credit card (because no fucker has ever got any money in their PayPal account) which always annoyed me, why should I pay for someone’s else’s credit transaction? So now they’ve dumped PayPal they are taking the cut directly (hence the 2.8% rise).

The other annoying thing is it’s no longer instant, so the buyers going to have to wait a few days for the item to be dispatched, I would think that might annoy wholesale sellers who are competing with Amazon Prime?

Unless it’s something that requires a global or niche market, I’ll stick to Facebook where it’s free (for now?)

  8. Looking at the info ambrose and dukesox kindly posted link to classified ad is £19.99 and auction listing or fixed price is £14.99 plus 1% of the final value fee with a minimum of £25 and a capped maximum of £45 so will cost to auction or a buy it now between £39.99 and £59.99 , probably the classified ads is the way to go really on flea bay

  9. Panic over, I went onto the eBay community site and they said ignore eBay chat, most of the reps don’t know what they are talking about, so here is what actually happens, if it’s a vehicle the sale is capped at £45 just as it’s always been, so I’ve relisted, I went back on chat, the rep agreed that the other 3 reps I’d spoken to were talking rubbish, he refunded my insertion fee, apologised and wrote very clearly that I would not receive any extra charges, no doubt all this may have damaged my chances of selling as people will wonder why the item ended and then reappeared, but hey if it doesn’t sell that’s not atragedy, what a day!

  10. Well Amanda I'd be reasonably sure was a bot. The others most likely also.
I don't have much faith in eBay now tbh. I wouldn't trust it.

  11. I have just about given up on eBay and if they force me on to their new system where my bank details are needed then that is the end - and, unlike a lot of people, I actually mean that. Even their attitude towards buyers and sellers reeks of arrogance now. Over the years I have sold a lot of stuff on eBay but not recently and probably never again. I also tend to now look elsewhere first when buying stuff - often works out cheaper too.

Amazon are heading the same way with their crazy bouncing prices and pseudo discounts.
