The end can strap location on this, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/27565240...TYaUvRkPh+KzsnnayWLKuYA3Q=|tkp:Bk9SR_CpmdS_YQ looks wrong. Opinions ? Andy
I’d value opinions on this one please. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134253886794 Genuinely asking for a friend. I know very little about these. He’s on a Thruxton R at the moment so I want to get him in the family TIA BJB
I think that was post before and had a few comments, i had a look but couldn't find it. Not sure if this one is still for sale on the forum. 748r Soon To Be Looking For A New Home 2001 (2nd Gen) 748r
It's not that/those RoadTrip, but thanks. What I do know is that it's a Japanese import a few years ago - looks decent enough but I don't know what parts it should/shouldn't have (wheels, frame etc). I'd imagine that reading any service history could be tricky!
First thing to say is it’s an import so past maintenance records are likely to be non existent and mileage is unlikely to be verified. It’s a 1st generation R so early monoposta subframe that had failures resulting in a redesign in 2001. Should be fine but a point to check. The R engine was upgraded with different con rods in 2001 for the first of the Öhlins suspension model (2nd gen). Can’t see much from the pictures but it looks original, one photo shows what looks like engine case corrosion so will need close inspection as will the inside of the fuel tank for corrosion. It has a standard 45mm exhaust so different eproms will be required if you friend wants to put 45mm carbon end cans or a 45/50mm mid pipe for 50mm cans. It’s an entry level 748R which is becoming more sought after as slab side 2002 748R prices escalate. And before anyone pipes in about the colour, that model was only available in yellow with the white seat panels. Seen several of the 1st gen models advertised, this is priced at the mid/upper range. Andy
5 spoke grey Marchesini wheels are correct as is the grey frame. Black mirror housing and non branded steering damper are also period correct. Andy
Thank you Andy. I'd point him towards your bike but its over his budget. Appreciate you taking the time to comment.
That’s not a problem at all, happy to pass on what I’ve learned. If I was closer, would have been happy to tag along when your friend goes to see it. Belt covers should be grey plastic and there should be a 5mm air gap between the cover and the case. 748R belts are 22mm wide and Ducati just put a spacer in the original mounting points rather than manufacture a deeper cover. Just looked at the pictures again, the carbon rear hugger and carbon chain cover are not OE. The carbon rear hugger got a reputation for rubbing on the rear tyre. AFAIK, all 748R service items including belts and clutch plates are still readily available. Andy
I have an issue with the description. It states, restored and finished in rare Air Force blue but offers no evidence of RAF ownership. IMO, someone has just painted it blue which doesn’t make it more special than any other colour. Andy
Good grief I’m bored, apparently the RAF isn’t such a rare colour or shouldn’t be majority of that model were sold to the RAF or for export. What’s with the rims being painted though looks goping.
