  1. How can you tell whether it’s sandcast or not?

Anyhoo, my 998 has the full factory S Engine Kit (available under 1 part number at the time) installed by the supplying dealer - it doesn't have Ti Rods. The only difference was supposed to be the non deep sump once fitted

  5. my 2002 998s has a sandcast deep sump motor is that not what make it a proper euro spec s ?

  6. Only the 998R and 999R have the true 999cc. With a 102mm bore.

The other non 999r are 100mm bore and 998cc

  7. Even that's wrong

  8. This kind of ends the debate - conrod part numbers - and everything else are the same - they were even used in the 999.

Soo - Exige - these none Titanium rods...... Perhaps Mario and Luigi had run out that day - shrugged their shoulders and went for a smoke. Or the dealers pulled a fast one.

  9. Yeh, I checked that, they also listed the same number on the 998 base model with an update to a different number for some reason. What about the Sand Cast Cases - were some produced to use some stock up and then reverted to die cast I wonder
No Ti Rods in the 998S? @Red998 ?

  10. Stock 998 is a different number

  11. AFAIK there are no Ti conrods in the 996R/998S as standard fitment. @Exige it would seem you had the heads off the 996R/998S engine, or at the very least the cams with their different profile, plus the exhaust system.

  12. There’s enough legitimate sources out there that say they did have Titanium conrods - including Falloon - and the Parts catalogs.

I can’t see anything that says the ‘upgrade’ kit takes a stock 998 up to full 998S spec - perhaps it was just a bundle of Ducati Performance parts - not including the Titanium rods or the deep sump.

  13. Yeh, the Kit was priced about 3K and that's the new price of the rods on their own!

In the best Fonz tradition perhaps I’m wro.......................................wroo.............................wron.........................

    damn ! Just can’t say it :D

  16. Me to too two 2 an all - there will be a fekkin' screw different somewhere
