That's a good point It's like the generator rota nuts coming loose on 916 engine's Italian engineering can be brilliant and awful at the same time One of the Electrex regulators never worked from new so that's nothing to do with the manufacturer To be fair the original 916 regulator lasted a few years.
I see things differently. RRs do not like heat. They are also not the most sophisticated devices. I see the failures due to a compromise in design. Where to fit the damned things. The 916 is a racebike first that has been made a roadbike second. Electrex make cheap and reasonable units i can swap over in 20mins.
Yep you are correct in that but at 120 quid it's a pretty expensive cycle I have decided to buy this one Motorcycle Parts Warehouse 23.00 quid I will let you know how I get on it look identical to the Electrex world one even the wires look identical
The last time i bought one it was £55. I also had my stator rewound. Thicker core cables were also fitted and i solder the connections.
Thanks Bootsam I also did the same but haven't had the stator rewound I'm getting a nice 35v ac at tick over. I may look into a jap one and rewire to suit Bestwishes .
