How does anyone survive without an Estate car in their lives? I had a 54plate 159 Sw(only a 1.7TD) for a while a couple of years ago as a stopgap car between the Discoverys I usually have. It was great to drive, and didn't, I repeat didn't, break down. Unfortunately it just wasn't big enough for my needs in both interior space and towing capacity. The rear suspension almost bottomed out with only 5 bags of cement in the back. I did seriously consider keeping it when my replacement Disco turned up. My best Estate before moving to large 4x4s was a GTB Subaru Legacy. A great car, that twin Turbo flat 4 was epic, the 4x4 was useful on slipways etc towing the smaller boat I had then, but it only did about 18mpg and got through tyres and clutches like nothing else I've had. If my needs changed and I no longer needed a big 4x4 I would seriously consider a new generation Subaru Legacy, but would probably end up with a 4x4 Volvo estate. Nasher
Putting myself into the firing line here as an Audi 4x4 driver. Was travelling around the UK when the kids were in their teens for their events with the National Childrens' Orchestra and needed a big car to take bags, 5 people and instruments. They are now both driving and have their own cars, so in reality I don't really need this car, but I can't find anything to provide the same level of comfort, or spec., so will keep it until it can go no more. It is a 2008 Audi Q7 4.2 TDI V8, 7 seats as standard, massive boot capacity with seats down, air suspension (drops for loading), done 156,000 Miles and goes like a train. Also has tow bar, panoramic sunroof, front and rear heated seats and Bose. It has been super reliable so far in my 8 years of ownership. These are comfortably under £10K.
Bridgland, they are great cars, and I've considered them a couple of times instead of my Discoveries. The 4.2 TDI V8 is a real draw for me. The lack of a low range and the slightly lower towing capacity is all that's held me back. I'm genuinely asking, not trying to be funny, but how do you thing it would cope with a twin axle 3Tn trailer on a sloping compacted gravel beach? Nasher.
You might need some All Terrain tyres to be sure, but I would say it has the power to pull a twin axle trailer easily! I think that due to the detachable tow bar, that is where the towing capacity limit is reached
Failed in buying a Skoda. And an estate. Ended up with a 3 Series GT 330d. At least I won't have to worry about indicating.
Well you didn’t rush into that The GT is a good car and just as practical as the touring. Good choice
I've had 3 Volvo estates (1 x 940SE Turbo + 2 x V70 2.4) Totalled about 500k Miles without any serious issues (and very few minor ones). My daughter now has a V60 and that seems to just continue my/our good experience with Volvo.
Your garden needs some work come Spring mate. Mrs Clubmam is that colour but with a little bit of Black trim here and there.
