Hi mate, yeah, tbh you probably will get 3 days if you aren't doing every session, and you aren't going for laptimes, I had some massive moments on the last day so they were definitely passed their best
I did 4 days at Almeria with FE on my R1 in May. It rained! So we lost a day. I rode on road tyres, I had a used set of Avon 3D Ultra's lasted two days, I had ordered another set of Avons from FE (this time extreme's as a bit stickier), but due to a cock up they didn't have them and I had a pair of Dunlop Sportssmart instead, they lasted the next two days and still had life at the end. I am by no means fast. If you go to Almeria, big up to Pepe, who is FE's man there and is an absolute Legend.
I had a few stints on the TDs, a definite improvement over the stock SP’s but the rear was moving a lot as I was picking the throttle up. I went to the SC3 in standard size (60) and liked them but of coarse you pay for that. Just ordered a new rear in a 65 profile. No idea how that’s going to feel but hopeful will be ok. the missis will be riding the bike in the novice ground when we go so definitely be covering some miles between us.
I tried the TD’s out in estoril and after 10 laps they were lighting up everywhere. They last well though. I sort of wanted mine to die so I could put something else on
its a shame cos they are well priced. I don’t think they help ground clearance either as they are a 55 profile.
I justify it by telling myself it’s cheaper than coming a cropper and wrecking the fairings. try it, it really works
What do people think of Cartagena? Thinking of pulling the trigger with NL in March 24-26, going solo. I'd be Low/Mid group on a Daytona. I'd love to do Portimao as well but that's sold out till Nov.
The NL hotel is basic, parking is extra and there is very limited on street parking but the track is great fun, tight and twisty, should suit the Daytona. Andy
Track is fun, especially on the smaller bike, although it has a 'low rent' feel to it. Hotel is pretty good, you'll need to head into town for dinner. Short drive to the track in the morning. I've never had to pay for parking at the hotel. There's useful supermarket at the rear of the hotel, handy for buying water and snacks for the track. or even dinner in a box, if can't be arsed to go into town.
I've just got back from Cartagena, I was told by everyone that I'd hate it on the first day so my expectations were low. I was riding my R1, and tbh it's the best litre bike for that track because the R1 is so torquey and turns really well on the throttle so I managed to get it to flow nicely. I'd really like to do it on a 675, or my old F3 800 but also, tbh it's all a balance, because there is SO much time on the sides of the tyre driving, that the TC is a nice comfort blanket, where as a Daytona wouldn't have it but would be less phyiscal. I managed a 1:49.99 which I was super happy with, I'm well aware though that there are normal fast group riders doing consistent 1:44-45 and racers have been under 1:40, but it's all relative, we had people on our trip (which was open pitlane) lapping at 2:50!!! I can't speak for Hotels as we stayed at LaManga resort, but I went into Cartagena a few times and my mates pointed out the hotel in question, looks okay tbh and Cartagena has some nice eats.
Thanks for replies, sounds well suited. Just adding up the totals and deciding whether to tack on extra day(s). Cheaper than going to silverstone 3 times at least.
I’ve booked flights and the hotel direct, can’t book td until I get my license back so may get on if it comes back and I get space. So will be a few there riding and, probably, not riding!
Hmmm, not looking like I can swing both Cartagena and then Portimao in November (Redline). Leaning towards the latter now.
