Ev - The Future

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by bradders, Jun 21, 2024.

  1. People and the media like to cherry pick stories...Whenever these an image of a new Ducati on fire or on a breakdown truck it goes viral, because only 'Italian shite' breaks down....

  2. If EVs were affordable, not just to company car owners because of the tax-payer subsidy and renewable energy was actually commercially viable and did not require vast public money (more tax-payer money, but also bill-payer levies), the new era might catch on a bit quicker than the car taking over the horse.
As things stand, new laws banning ICE vehicles and forcing us to abandon gas boilers are the only mass-market incentives to adoption.
Sadly, in a world of massive government debt and highest ever taxes, there isn’t much room for a consumer led boom.

  3. Thought this was going to be a thread about little old Everton and life after Moshiri.
    Disappointed.

  4. No subsidies on EVs for companies, or anyone else anymore, price point reaches equality around 12-20,000 miles depending on model so cheaper for most people in the market for NEW cars. Not sure what ‘public money’ you think is being spent, I charge mine at home, no one has offered me any money to do so and I really don’t need it as costs about 1/4 of what I used to pay in diesel. None of the grid or production is publicly owned and hasn’t been for forty years or so, therefore no public money there. Chargers at petrol stations and services are also privately owned, so again no public funds. Of course you could argue that public funds are used to pay for asthma treatment, lung disease etc etc etc etc, but I don’t think you want to hear that at a guess.

But now I understand your questions regarding diesel, it wasn’t to understand the issue, but because of a dislike for EVs. Makes sense now……….

  5. Wrong assumption about “not liking EVs”, but sadly you do illustrate the point that the whole EV thing has become rather political these days.
I am an e-scooter guy after all, so you can really hate me for that :p.
My simple view is that EVs and renewable energy should be commercially compelling to both consumers and producers and not require “bans” or subsidies to make them sell.

  6. When you see an electric motor running next to a diesel engine, the difference in noise and efficiency is impressive/compelling.
Sadly this isn't the whole story.

  7. Having used one on hols we’d have one. E-scooter that is.

  8. Brilliant for city use, just not in the UK though
Even more useful around the track paddock as well :D
