Back in the 80s I had a Katana 1000 – the one that pinked if you put 2 star in the tank and would spin up the rear wheel in third in the wet. It was great for embarrassing any car – or so I thought. One day I came up to a junction behind a what was obviously a white Lamborgini and on closer inspection turned out to be a Countach 5000s. Sure enough as we pulled out I popped past him and then boy did he respond! 22 miles of hard work to stay ahead (I accelerated faster, he had a high V-max) and at the end we pulled into the same pub. He even bought me a beer!
Like so many cars in this life..... Wish I'd bought one when they were down to 60-70k https://www.pistonheads.com/classif...ntach/lamborghini-countach-5000-s-rhd/8636087
Horrible things unless you are a midget. I sat in one when looking for my Porsche and literally would not be able to drive it because my head was bent double just to get into it. Still cool as feck though!
Another like. This time for the Kat. I had the 1100. Frame had more hinges in it than a folding ruler. Stunning bikes though.
The last race I had was in 1996 on my Bandit 1200 against a TVR, can’t remember exactly, was it a Griffin 500 or Chimera ? All I remember was Thrashing the arse out of the bandit and got nowhere against the TVR. Happy days but not done it since....
I had a 500 Griff it had the same straight line performance of an early gsxr600 but the brakes and suspension were shocking.
Yeah, but the TVR was in a cloud of smoke 2 miles further up the road, so don't beat yourself up too much.
Yeah, they do sound nice. Awful seats though. I had one fill my mirrors recently but easily dispatched
It must be a bit special then...whats in it as a bog standard RS2000 would struggle with a Bonneville..?
Depends if it’s dry or wet tbh & the type of road (surface). Lots of flash metal my way, with a series of dual carriageways & roundabouts. Had a play with virtually all the mainstream stuff, but if behind the car, I can always see when the driver puts down too much power coming out of the roundabout because the slight wheelspin causes traction control to kick in and you leave them for dead. The quickest thing I’ve come up against by a country mile is a Nissan GTR. The driver was smooth & literally straightened out the roundabouts. I try my best not to get sucked in any more, most are fairly considerate, however got aggressively brake checked by a Benz AMG GT recently.. You don’t know the skill level or frame of mind of your playmate, it’s not worth it.
I had a go against a similar escort in my m3 recently. Thought I'd have a play and then leave him. He had the biggest grin on his face as he pissed passed me and i pissed myself and gave him a big thumbs up. A real sleeper!
Ooof, 2 bar! Aren't you scared it goes 'pop' That's a lot of boost. I'm running 1.4 bar in my 911 and it's batshit fast. 1.2 was standard and what a difference +0.2 bar makes with mapping. Forgive my ignorance, was the Cosworth turbo a 4 pot 2 litre? Lovely car btwroll back the years
