  1. Try cutting an Exactfit belt and a Ducati Performance belt. I know which one I prefer!

  2. Can you elaborate please, whats the difference?

  3. Interesting...
I didn't even know you could get Ducati Performance belts. Are these more expensive but longer lasting versions of the standard Ducati/Gates belts?
If they're say, £200 a pair instead of £140 for my bike but last 10 years instead of 2 years like the standard belts, that would make them better value and I wouldn't be forever changing belts either - when you get to my advanced age, 2 years is no time at all. In fact, 10 years might even see me out!
Have to say I don't fully understand the top-tip about cutting belts though. Is the idea to cut carefully along their length, so you get 2 belts out of one?
That would certainly make them better value but would that not compromise their strength and mean it would be a bit risky to leave them in for the recommended 2 years?
Are you saying you've actually tried this and it works??

  4. Ducati belts hold more Kevlar within the core...got the girls in the lab at my former employment to look under a microscope and compare fibre mass. Bit extreme I know. But you know what it's like at work.

  5. OK thats interesting, after seeing the test vid you assume the EF belts are as good or stronger. Was it a big difference?

  6. Gosh, so you went to the trouble and expense of importing ExactFit belts from America, paying the original price, the shipping, import duty, the VAT and the handling charge, only to cut them up in order to compare them with Ducati Performance belts which you also cut up. That's amazing...
How come you've waited till now to share the results of your research with us??
Did you also do an ultimate strength test and did you include Dayco in your research as well? It would be interesting to know how they compare.
Did you import three belts then, so you could install a pair if the Kevlar fibre density turned out to be higher than in the Ducati Performance belts or did you do this just out of interest??

  7. good guess...but at the time I had two bikes, the other a 916. So I clicked on buy it now on eBay and amazingly the Exactfit belts were sent to my address! Also the old Ducati belts came off my R and the old Exactfit came off my 916. So I had two old belts. Simples, although not for some

  8. So you had cross sections of both belts analysed for Kevlar content by "girls at work" out of idle curiosity, even though you had no belt failures?? That's remarkable...

  9. anyone would think you were connected to these coming to the UK..........

  10. So, you fitted ExactFit belts presumably because you had some kind of confidence in them, unless they were already fitted. Anyway, you still fitted more ExactFit belts so presumably you had no issues. You then deemed them good enough to fit to both your bikes including your precious 749R? You then felt it necessary to compare a Ducati 916 OEM Belt with a different model ExactFit belt from your 749R? Your story is a little strange so far. You also presumably do not know the age or spec of the belts tested either?

What I find surprising is you joined the Forum seemingly just to sell your bike at the end of last year and have had no involvement since - your last post being 2 months ago. Then you re appear just as I announce that I am the UK distributor for California Cycleworks products including ExactFit belts and feel in necessary to post again with a detrimental post to my new partnership with CCW.
I find this extremely odd, more likely you have some association with Ducati or Gates, or perhaps someone you know does who then directed you to this post to be malicious. Maybe a coincidence but I see you live within commutable distance to a Gates facility...

It is good that some people understand what ExactFit belts are and the reputation they have built in the USA and elsewhere, with even Ducati main dealers offering them to customers.

And @andyb I can assure you Old Rider found out about my deal with CCW about 48 hours ago, I hope the law isn't taking sides here :)

  11. Apologies I work away in different countries and don't come on here from month to month.

Also, I use Exactfit, just at this moment of time I have Ducati belts on my R as I purchased them for a discount price.

Who the f**k are you to determine what belts I use, and yes my R is "precious" the same as any other model from any other brand from any other rider.

    You da man bro!

  12. Think they are pretty even, I prefer to go with Ducati but Exactfit look to be good value. However it seems I'm not allowed to have a preference if you read on in the thread

  17. and do we have to change them as often as the Ducati OEM's? ...I need some new belts....

  18. Hi :)

I am currently taking advice on warranty statements with CCW and will update on the website before trading. I don't want to use this Forum as a sales tool without discussing with @Rob first so I would appreciate any question to [email protected] until I have done so

  19. Hi David, see post above for contact. My current understanding is the change times run concurrently with OEM guide lines, any updates following further discussions with CCW will also be posted on the web site prior to trading. The benefit of using ExactFit belts will be in the retail price, whilst maintaining a best of industry practice in manufacturing tolerances and materials. I aim to have prices finalised in the coming week. If you don't have prior knowledge of ExactFit belts there is a great deal of information on ducati.org where people have many years of experience with CCW products.
