Now that could solve all of my problems. What colour is the finish (Grey Ice) and how long did it take? Cheers
I used adhesive remover and a micro fiber cloth on the ends of my Termi. It did wonders made them look good as new.
Brasso might take the crud off already polished pipes that haven't got too hot but I don't think it will touch the steel itself. It's meant for polishing soft brass, not hard steel.
I find the front pipe, in its vertical run towards the can, stays shiny fairly indefinitely. The rear pipe turns golden quickly but stays shiny. When it gets darker you need to polish the gold off again. Maybe every fourth ride?
If you just want to get rid of the discolouration on the headers & link pipes and aren't bothered about them being shiny use some welders pickle paste, brush it on nice and thick leave for 10 minutes and wash it off pipes look like new but be aware it is very nasty stuff make sure you've plenty of ventilation and you definitely need some protective equipment to stop it getting on your skin
Blimey, I'd be cleaning mine every week. I think it would have to be ceramic for me. I like Old Jock's Camcoat finish http://ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/alternative-to-polished-pipes.38326/#post-676724 I like the idea of wrapping too. That would look the business on a Streetfighter but I guess the pipework is just too snaky.
I did the downpipes on my 900 special recently and an afternoon of various grades of wet and dry (they were pretty bad in places), wire wool, drill with wire brush attachment, Dremel, Autosol and a lot of elbow grease did the trick. They will start to go bronze/blue again though once they get hot
Long time ago now but I'm pretty sure I had them done in the stainless finish. Only took a couple of weeks I think. Give them a call. They were very friendly and helpful.
Cleaning them with Wonderwheels alloy wheel cleaner every 2 or 3 weeks will remove the bronze colouring. Watch where you get it though. It will lift the passivated coating of fasteners etc.
I hadn't thought of pickling paste. In looking into it a bit further, it may be that Optiglanz is a pickling spray with better marketing. I think I need to check out my local welding suppliers and see what's around. Thanks for the tip.
