Considering one, like 749er by the sound of it, but don’t like the need to cut or remove fairing. Guess it’s just a trade off: ease of use vs convenience
Have used an Abba stand with the front lift arm to drop my forks out before. No use this time, but a good product for not too much dosh. Glad your finally getting those forks sorted, your first post about considering this was in the Triassic! Haha. Dave
I can't recall cutting the fairings to use it, and they don't need to come off once the support bracket is fitted. I use it on trackdays as well
When I look at the abba style stands I always worry that once its elevated and you start pulling off major components, that the CofG will change enough that it could tip. I'm sure many folk with more experience in these stands will be able to confirm what's possible and what's not, but I would hate to find out the hard way.
Mine fell forward (or backwards, whichever it’s not meant to) once, luckily I had wheel fitted and got under bike before it hit the ground. So never use without other stands since. I still have the stand and loads of adapters for wary Ducati’s but not current crop and won’t bother
Success. Silly little local issue prevented stand working properly. Picture has a clue as to what I needed to do to resolve….fresh eyes today helped

I have the Abba stand inc. front end lift in addition to front and rear paddock stands (under fork and headstock types). The Abba stand is my go to for any serious work. I’ve had both front and rear ends off all my bikes (Pani 959/1299, 748, 996 Truimph 675, 765, Kawasaki z900 etc) simultaneously on it with never so much as a doubt. You do need to ensure it is correctly located before lifting but then super stable. Edit. I guess the clue is in the name for one of the types. Paddock stands in the paddock. Abba stand in the workshop.
Do what plenty of people do, make a simple webbing bridle and strap it under the front frame and front of the rear subframe and hang it from a beam.
The other trick is to hold the rear wheel down and jack up on the sump. You can do this with a variation of a shop tire changing setup or what i do which is to pile on all these lead weight I have kicking around onto the stand!
Ive had my forks out half a dozen times using this method, unless you remove the triple plastics permanently front stands are a PITA
Have done that in the past and would be my last resort. Always worries me when it’s balancing on a block or wood or whatever. I’ve strategically placed a bar thru under the casings and axle stands just in case the front goes, which is what I would have done chocking it up
I’m sure you can just put some tape on fairing and flex out of the way without complete removal with the abba ( so I read somewhere on here)
