Facebook Sh*t

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by PerryL, Dec 17, 2018.

  1. I looked up my IP address and in never told me that I had bought an Abba Skylift at the NEC bike show, but perhaps I should have given Abba my IP address. I went to our local market and bought mushrooms on Sunday and they were not there either, the stall holder would probably not even know what an IP address was.
As said, don't use facebook if you are afraid of it, worried that you are going to tell it things that you don't want to, or think that everyone is that interested in hacking you. For the billions of us that have been using it for years and are very happy with the huge advantages that it gives us, we will carry on using it.

  3. You don't care, we get that.

Some people care. Some people would care, if they knew the stuff that FB at al get up to.

It's all good. Except of course, for folks who innocently give up personal information that non-benign actors, like oppressive regimes, will use to persecute said folks. But that's ok, they aren't your sister so no harm done.

You didn't get back to me about the Burka.

  8. People who believe that others out there are incessantly trying to persecute them need to look in the mirror. There they will meet the one person that will betray them the most.

  13. I'd say you are deluded or do not understand the huge market there is for data!

  14. Nah, I only Admin 2 Groups, have a business page , am a lawyer ... so I'm one of those reckless types who doesn't read fine print, keep abreast of developments, retain a consultant for my IT needs

  15. And yet, so innocent in the ways of the world!

    Complacency =/= Confidence

Your IT consultant would be telling you that, if he wasn't so intent on fleecing you.

    : o D

  16. 1) Lawyers lose their innocence in their Articles year - but I excuse your naivety

    2) When it comes to the art of fleecing' ... seriously :joy:

    Poor @Loz - not waving, drowning. :)

  17. Lawyers. Heh. Love it.

Anyway, your charming innocence and failure to grasp modern technological realities aside, is there anything else you feel you need to be schooled upon?

Digging holes for yourself, you have covered already, presumably in "lawyer school". : o D

  18. Oh please do tell what 25 years practice has failed to teach.

Am so willing to learn from eternal user of fast becoming extinct Forum platform.

  19. 25 years of "lawyering" has failed to teach you what it has failed to teach most people in your position - it's failed to draw your attention to your own limitations and your cognitive/awareness blindspots. You aren't the first and you won't be the last.

Look, I get it. You're upset you didn't see the FB data leakage coming, you've probably been wondering why you get so many targeted ads and spooky Amazon "suggestions" and now some guy on an extinct forum was the one to clue you in on all of this.

Your ego will recover, a few days being back in your office will make you feel like an all-conquering legal eagle again. Don't sweat the small stuff.

In any event, I'm sure you're not successful enough to be of individual interest to the buyers and sellers of data, so relax. No one cares about your stuff on a personal level.

  20. Hahahaha @Loz has thrown the toys out of the pram.

Two well intentioned pieces of advice:
    1) the overused saying "the only certainty in life is change" is nevertheless true. Try, please try and engage your somewhat dilapidated cerebral equipment and educate yourself - otherwise pass peacefully with the dinosaurs.

    2) Don't bring a popgun to a shootout
