Kinda agree, I mean the keyless ignition I find very convenient but should have included the petrol cap too, good idea just wouldn't pay an extra £220 for the privilege, if one came up on eBay at a decent price then I may take a punt
I agree, this is the reason I changed mine, but I changed the cap for a racing type screw lid, its mega, pull into garage, unscrew, fill up, screw back on, pay and go, no worrying about getting key out and also making sure you have the bugger in yer pocket again after you have fuelled up!!
Personally I think the keyless filler is great. It saves having to fish about for the key when stopping to fill up. Its convenience, just as a remote flap is on a car. I wish they had included keyless pannier locks too, with a couple of buttons on the 'remote' keyfob. Then it would all be truly integrated. We could all then run out of petrol and not be able to get at our clothes either
Ive made a remote rear seat release, using a car central locking solenoid Works a treat, and saves you leaving the key in the seat release latch, which is very easy to do! I know cause ive done it!! But luckly it didnt fall out..!
Boomer, can you use it with an F'ing great spring as an ejector seat ? Seriously, I'm interested, how do you activate it, with a hidden button somewhere ? only enabled with the ignition on ? PM me if prefered or don't want to let the whole world know by posting here
Haha! Not that powerfully I'm afraid! Lol wifey stays put!! No worrys, John. Don't mind sharing with the forum I'll keep the button location to myself, but to be fair only works with the ignition on anyway..? Here's a pic of solenoid fitted Strapped to suspension resoviour with a big tie wrap and some dense foam padding Wired to ignition voltage, push button switch, (hidden) pulls solenoid (quite powerfully) and up pops rear seat! Simples!! No need for key, just need to remember to pop rear seat before I turn off ignition ( or turn on to open seat) And link to e bay to purchase http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230686589133?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Hope this helps. PM if you want any further info?
I have done the same. I think I got a warning that the key transponder was no longer recognised, so I stopped thinking that I had dropped the key after releasing the seat and was about to go back to my departure point when I saw the key in the seat release lock. Doh.
and another idiot here... Boomer, was it as simple as taking a +ive feed from the battery via a fuse, to the switch, switch to solenoid and solenoid to -ive on the battery? Also, how did you attach the wire cable to the existing cable ? Thanks
Hi Tripletrouble, Yeah thats right, + to battery via in line fuse, to push button switch. And - to good earth or battery - The kit doesnt need a relay if you use the supplied switch, as it can handle the current draw I tried a smaller push button switch at 1st, but it just fried the contacts in the switch! Could have wired via a relay, but decided on the simpler option of no relay and supplied push button switch You attach the cable with a little wire clamp grub screw type device, onto the original seat pull cable. I think it came in the kit, but i cant remember now.. This also still leaves the original cable attached if you still wish to use the key option as well Hope that helps
I've come to the conclusion I'd prefer a non locking filler cap, sorts out all problems - who goes around nicking petrol these days???
It's not nicking that's the issue. Some passing toerag might think it funny to add sugar, beer, used beer, or a lighted match to your tank. Still, if you're happy to take the risk ...
