6 European Countries In 2 Weeks.
Sadly my bike trip has came to an end but a great two weeks, 3595 miles door to door, from N.Ireland via Dublin & Folkstone to France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Holland & Belgium, before returning home via the Snowdonia National Park in Wales to Holyhead and the ferry back to Dublin and then home. Planning has now stated for the next one, France & Italy, to start with. Here's a just a few pics. -
For Sale 996 For Sale
I am moving overseas with my job in a few months and boring legislation means I can’t take my bikes with me so my 996 is up for sale.
It is a 1999 model (registered in 2000) and has undergone a full restoration about 2 years ago. The frame and wheels have been painted (better than powder coating) by DW Auto who are on the same industrial estate as Luigi Moto and it's who he uses for frames as they have worked together to get the colour right. The engine was taken out and sent to Luigi Moto but because it had been sat in oil, it had screwed up the crankshaft journal. It was actually easier to find a complete engine than it was a new crankshaft, so it was taken to Luigi for him to give it the once over and the engine was dropped that in. The valve clearances were also done at this point too. The engine only had 8k miles on it and has been fully registered with the frame number with DVLA. It has done approximately 500-600 miles since this rebuild.

New Frenchy
Hi guys,
Came here looking for a seat pad reference design for a 888, currently modifying a 94 888 strada to solo seat, and also have a special TT-F1 build ongoing.
I’m a mechanical design engineer working in the oil and gas industry for almost 20 years, have build my own 3D printers, CNC, and like to build my own parts for the bikes.
Hope to enjoy having nice technical discussions! -
Leaking Valve
So let me start by saying that prevention is so much better than cure. In my case I discovered this problem or rather it was diagnosed, during a routine annual check. I hasten to add not my bike but me!! My job requires me to have a fairly comprehensive annual medical and back in January I was grounded by the CAA due to a leaking mitral valve in my heart. In essence the valve is comprised of 2 "leaflets" and the rear one had prolapsed, meaning it was not allowing the valve to form a seal when closed, resulting in blood leaking back through the valve (otherwise known as "regurgitation") and causing an audible murmur, which is how it was first detected.
This condition causes the heart to have to work harder and the muscle to eventually stretch to compensate, which in the short term mitigates the leak but in long term, eventually weakens the whole organ and increases the risk of atrial fibrillation and having a stroke. Had I not had the medical, I would have been none the wiser as I... -
1299 New (almost) 1299s
After an absence I am glad to be a Ducati owner yet again. For the last 20 years I have owned a variety of Ducatis ranging from the 748R, Diavel Titanium (what was I thinking) and the latest bike was the 1199r which I regretted selling.
The Ducati’s have either been a second or third bike in the stable so with the 1199 gone, I opted to try the s1000RR (Pictured). What a fast bike, heated grips, cruise control etc but I found it boring and dull. It was just too easy. I’d come back from a ride with no aches no pains and a tank full of energy. With the Ducati, I’d need a chiropractor and 2 days rest.
With no love for the V2/V4 examples, I went on the hunt for what had to be an immaculate unmarked example. The search paid off. Here’s my 1299s with only 950 miles on the clock and full Ducati supplying dealer service history. Paint work is immaculate with a beautiful reflective surface. Even under an Led light the paint scatter is minimal. Wonderful bike. I won’t be selling this one. -

For Sale St4s Cherished 15 Years, 21k Miles, Ultimate All-rounder With 996, Ohlins & Luggage
Near-mint Ducati ST4S 2001 with Ducatisti owner for 15 years
996 engine with Ohlins, Brembos and fitted luggage
£3500 with standard exhausts, with first refusal on extras listed below
You may not have considered an ST, but they're some of Ducati's finest efforts. Described as 'one of the most balanced and effective bikes I have ever had the pleasure of riding' by Neil Spalding, MotoGP commentator and proprietor of Sigma Performance. The 4S was the pinnacle combining the 996 4-valve engine with all-day comfort and Ohlins suspension. Supremely torquey even 2-up yet returning a consistent 55mpg, with a 220+ mile range. The Ducatis of this time (under TPG management) had excellent finish and quality control. The few known quirks of the ST have been fully sorted during 15 years of cherished ownership making this one of the best available for sale today. Low miles but used frequently, it did 1600 miles in 6 days recently, trouble-free, and wants for nothing. I'd love to keep it but... -

Sort Of Touring…with Cannonball!
Just back from an epic tour with Cannonball bike run 2023, in Europe.
We started in Austria, then in to Italy, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Austria…Germany. With barely a stop for breath.
Epic. Mad. Fast. Some mad riding, some mad but brilliant people.
Bikes ranged from KTM 890 Duke, GS1250, Multistradas (none actually broke down, but a KTM nearly did not reach the start due to electrical issues ) to S1000rr and tricked up Superdukes. A real mix.
Crashes? Hmm. Nobody died. Fun? Yes, in epic proportions.
This is the trip I promised myself 6 years ago and thought was to be permanently shelved. Thanks to my very understanding wife for being able to get away this time.
Expensive? Yes. Worth it, yes, with many people hooked and returning each year. Could you book the same thing with your mates? In theory maybe, but in practice no. Very good Routes sorted, hotels sorted, luggage transported, back up van (useful for totalled motorcycle one day and a lightly... -
It’s Good To Be Back…
Hi all,
Back in the olden days (circa 2016) I was an active member on here, being the proud owner of an 1199, then 899, 1199R and lastly a 848 Streetfighter (slightly odd transition from the R to the fighter, granted).
I then went through my post-Ducati phase, owning all sorts of guff including a Husqvarna (motorbike, not chainsaw), a Triumph Street Triple (possibly the most boring bike on the planet) an old Fireblade (cracking bike) and most recently a brand new MV Agusta F3 Rosso (beautiful but completely flawed).
I decided enough was enough and the Ducati itch needed scratching once more. So I chopped in the disastrous MV for a 2018 Panigale V4S.
Oh my, it’s good to be back

For Sale Ducati 999r Mk1
I'm selling my Ducati 999R after owning it for nearly 14 years for several reasons, the main one being it has been unused for 8 years and the wife won't let me display it in the house, which is fair enough and as we are looking at down sizing our house |I won't have the garage space either.
It is an MY04 with only 6636 miles and has been serviced by myself during most of my ownership and recently had a recommissioning service including belts and oil.
It comes with :-
JHP billet clutch cover
Oberon clutch slave cylinder
Carbon fuel cap
Puig screen
Underslung rear caliper mount
Samco hoses
Braided lines
Carbon key guard and tank infill
Carbon hugger and swingarm cover
749 rear shock linkage and custom tuned shock to match
The plaque and lots of receipts are there too plus the original parts
Please view the photos for condition
Looking for £17500, which makes it the cheapest 999R available! -
Hello There! New To Me 996
Good evening everyone, I've recently purchased my hero bike (I'm sure the same for many others) I've never owned a Ducati before so straight in at the deep end! The bike is a 1999 996 biposto, I didn't want something too precious as I want to enjoy it for what it was meant for. I hope to find plenty of useful info on the forum.
Anyway heres some pictures, including one with a bin as I see that's a thing here!

For Sale Ohlins Fgr 800 Wsbk Forks
I bought these forks initially as part of a 1198RS WSBK build, however, I now have plans to use different forks so no longer need these.
I bought them from Germany advertised as having only been used on a show bike but they have marks suggesting they have been used in a bike, either that or the previous owners were very clumsy causing storage marks.
The forks are in really good shape. They have some marks throughout consistent with the age of FGRs but are probably one of the better examples you'll find. There are a couple of marks on the fluted outer tube but these can be turned to the inside and won't be seen.
They have 108mm caliper mountings.
The fork bottoms are in really good condition as are the inner tubes which show little to no signs of wear.
I don't know when they were last serviced but there is no fluid leaking and the seals appear good. The pictures provide a good representation of their condition so there will be no surprises.
These forks were used by all the...Wardybud Jun 21, 2023 Parts, Accessories & Clothing For Sale Read More Views: 2,577 Likes: 8 Replies: 7 -
996 996 Touring Adaptations
My best friend and touring buddy has had his 996 for almost 15 years now. We've been doing an annual tour since 2010, since our kids were old enough and partners tolerant of our absence. We did miss one year during the lock-downs.
This may possibly court controversy from the purists... Not the most practical of touring bikes he's made the best of his 996s to get him to the twisties/mountains where he can really enjoy the bike's potential.
Since the early days he made some adaptations to enable luggage carrying. Removing the pillion cover and seat to create a platform to mount an old Oxford Liftime Luggage tail-pack with the matching panniers on neat home made rails to keep them close and securely mounted but stop then sagging into the rear wheel. His minimal packing style, no idea how he does this for a 8-10 day trip, usually favours just the tail-pack.
He's an ingenious and resourceful guy, an engineer and a farmer, this year he's gone a step further. Wanting to achieve the... -

For Sale 1299 Superleggera
I’m going to sell my 1299 Superleggera as it’s, well, a lot.
I bought it in a slightly (read: massively) petulant splurge, knowing my already feeble skills were fading, and now- as predicted- it’s all too much for me, as I’m both old and useless. Which is a heady combination if what you want to do is cultivate a yucca plant, say, but not if you want to rattle around on a 200+bhp lion that’s been trapped in an oven whilst on its period.
The bike is, as you would expect, immaculate, and has spent most of the two years I’ve owned it in my front room (the first owner never rode it at all, and kept it in his front room too), but- I’m more than a little proud to say- I’ve also managed to pathetically wobble 1600 miles on to it, all of which have been epic in a way that even the V4R and Desmosedicis that proceeded it cannot touch.
The bike (No 468/ 500) has only ever been ridden by me, and has never been ridden on track. It has been fully serviced by Ducati (last serviced 150 miles... -
Trying Something Different
After 14 Ducati’s I have switched brands and ‘hope’ I haven’t made a mistake.
I love my Ducati’s but with no local dealer in my area now and end of warranty approaching soon I decided to try something different.
I haven’t been well so was going to sell both my bikes and have a break but thought ‘stuff it’ as I have always had a bike for over 40 years so jumped in with both feet.
Picked it up on Friday and first impressions are that it’s smooth, brakes are the best I have had on any bike. Steering feels quick and it will pull in 6th from 30mph without juddering.
Seat is the hardest I have even known, footrests seem higher than expected and bars are flat and wide.
The wings are a bit overkill but they are now appearing on a few bikes now.
Fitted a few bits yesterday so will have a go on my regular roads and see how it is. -

V4 V4, What A Touring Machine
Just back from a 2 week tour of Europe, and all I can say is the V4 is a perfect bike. Did a similar tour 4 years ago, on a 1200dvt, and had a great time, but went back this year on the V4 and was blown away with its all round capabilities. From Autobahn fast riding, to mountain hairpins, all day rain, to 32° heat, it never let me down. This was my wife's first big tour, and she loved it, never got the usual numb bum she got with the dvt, so happy wife is happy life. Did a few guided tours with the hotel, and we were only bike two up, and some of the single riders , struggled to keep up with us, its so planted in the corners, and just powers out of them with ease. Even the fuel economy that lots of people complain about, I averaged 42 MPG over the 2 weeks, so I'm happy with that. We even hired a BMW k1600gt for the day to see if it was better two up, and no, we will stick to the V4, better in every way. And BMW only achieved 36MPG.
Can't wait until next year, or if have the time,...
