Twin Twins
Ciao Ragazzi,
I'm new to the forum and reasonably new to biking, having acquired a 600ss a couple of years ago and decided to do the DAS thing.
I love that little bike and can't think of a better introduction to the sport / hobby / obsession. Unfortunately she started cutting out after 5 minutes riding; I think a replacement carburettor is needed.
Rather than getting on with buying replacement carbs and since I had just too much space in the garage (that yawning chasm between the SS, the table tennis table, bicycles and children's scooters, various pieces of useful-looking timber, etc), I bought a 996. I've not yet ridden that bike as there's been a bit of a hold-up while the private plate it was on gets transferred, but I have looked at it an awful lot...I think I'm going to like it.

Ducati Multistrada 1200. Four bikes in one.
When it comes to the history of Ducati bikes then the Ducati Multistrada 1200 is surely one of the most diverse ranges around in the sense that we are not always entirely sure how to class the bike that come under the Multistrada series.
It was originally billed as a tourer type bike perfect for going on off-road adventures that a normal bike would struggle on. Indeed, there has been a rise in the number of bikes that have came under this classification in recent years and a lot of people are now purchasing them for off-roading; but does the 1200 from Ducati and all the models that come under this range actually classify as an adventure-tourer?
Releasing the 1200
The exterior of the Multistrada series, particularly when it was first announced in 2010 and released soon after, was controversial in that it could very much be placed, as Visor Down explained, in the ‘marmite’ category of bikes – you are either going to love it or think that it is one of the ugliest bikes around.... -
Ducati Multistrada 1000. Unmistakeable style.
The Multistrada range of Ducati bikes has always split opinion at least when it comes to the aesthetics. For every person who thinks that the design of the bikes – especially the first generation that was released in 2003 – is quirky and different there will be someone else who despises the overall style of the Multistrada range.
“The reaction [when the first Multistrada was unveiled] was one of hushed shock, because the Multistrada looks like nothing else – except possibly a Dyson upright vacuum. Ducati is known for producing iconic machines such as the 916 and Monster and now it unveils something that looks like the result of a night of taboo sex between a Cyberman and a supermoto”. - VisorDown.com
However, the design element to the Multistrada often takes a bit of a backseat when it comes to the bike overall as the focus is mainly on how well it rides. Multistrada itself translates into ‘many roads’ in that the whole purpose of the bike is that it should be able to drive... -
Ducati Desmosedici. MotoGP on the motorway.
The Ducati Desmosedici is one of the iconic bikes to come out of the Italian company. It began with the technical changes in the rules in 2002 for the World Road Racing which effectively turned it into the MotoGP as we know it today that convinced Ducati to make its return to track racing and, with it, came the road-legal MotoGP Desmosedici. The MotoGP version started its design in 2001 and was released for use in 2002 however it wasn’t until 2007 that Ducati won their first MotoGP World Championship with the Desmosedici with hero Casey Stoner.
Indeed, there have been no fewer than 9 incarnations of the Desmosedici bike throughout the past 11 years for Ducati with the most recent being the GP12 with its 1000cc and was ridden, albeit fairly unsuccessfully, by Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden at the 2010 MotoGP circuit. Although, Rossi, in 2007 when he was still with Yamaha, admitted that his bike could never compete with the Desmosedici on the straight and nor could any other one... -

Welcome to the new look Ducati Forum
So it looks a bit different - yep!
We've moved from vBulletin 4 to Xenforo for the forum. Basically for a few reasons, mainly because it was no longer supported and their new version was not very good at all.
This forum has a lot more features, is easier to use, works better on mobile and is a lot quicker.
There will be a few things missing until I get round to activating them - if you notice anything please use this thread to highlight it.
I'll post some things here that you might find useful.
Firstly, uploading pictures is much easier. You can drag a picture into the text editor and it will automatically upload. Give it a go
Hover over a post and you'll notice a lot more options to like and rate posts. They appear at the bottom right of each post.
Private messages are now called conversations. They are easier to read, especially when they get long.
Check out the Gallery from the tabs at the top of the forum. It's really powerful. You can upload unlimited pictures,... -
Ducati 916 winter spruce up.
Hi,
I bought my 916 last October after wanting one for many years. Quite a bit of money had been spent on servicing and paintwork over the last 2 years and it was mechanically sound. Charlie's Motorcycles in Bradford got the belts done at Ducati Manchester and did a brake fluid change before it was delivered. I managed one 30 mile ride out before the weather turned to crap. So with only an oil change and coolant top up required I decided to strip her down and take a closer look.
Generally all was good, but some areas had seen better days. She was a bit grubby in places and many bolts/brackets were rusty. There was quite a few original parts missing and a few daft annoying things like mismatched bar ends, a 998 heat shield held on with jubilee clips, old partly polished rearsets and tacky aftermarket bolts etc etc etc.
My original plan was to restore back to standard but during the work I decided to make some tasteful mods. It's nearly finished now after many hours of graft.
A bit...
