1260 Ride To Death Valley From Sf Bay Area This Coming Week
ciao a tutti,
a group of 6 riders (two of us on Multistradas) will be riding from the SF Bay Area south east to Death Valley, meeting up with a few more Multistradas riding in from Santa Barbara/Ojia area in Bakersfield, CA, and then continuing on to Beatty, NV to meet up with a few riders from Southern California.
will spend a few days riding in and around Death Valley (my first time there).
will post up a few picts when i return.
here is the potential route from Bay Area to Death Valley green for day 1 (303 miles), magenta for day 2 (240 miles).
normally, we would bang out the entire 543 miles in a day ... but most of us on this trip have not ridden these roads, seen what is there ... so we will do a more casual riding pace, stopping frequently for photos and to take in the scenery.
have not plotted routes back yet, as will be dependent on road conditions/weather. if it was summer, we would ride back up north on CA-395, then west on CA-120 through Yosemite. unfortunately,... -

How Do, From North Yorks
Hi Everyone,
just introducing myself as a Newbie to the forum having just taken delivery of my new Scrambler this morning (image attached). I am very much looking forward to getting out on it, when the weather improves (snowing here presently!).
Previous bike was a Versys Tourer, which was great but I never did any touring so I thought I would buy something a bit more entertaining. I also have a Honda Monkey which is like the Scramblers little brother
Looking forward to posting more in the coming weeks,
Thanks

New Ducati V2 Member
Hi all, first time Ducati owner here (been riding for 20 odd years). Got a Panigale V2 track bike. Done a number of trackdays last season on it, had one big slide and decided now is the time to put some track fairings on. Did so this winter, and for the first in 20 years, dropped a stationary bike
All good now (albeit £260 lighter after replacing some bent bits), almost ready for her first trackday of the season in a couple of weeks at Cadwell Park. Just need to get some new tyres fitted and off we go with the missus and her RS 660. -

For Sale Ex Iom T T F1 Race Bike
This bike was raced extensively by Dave Cartwright between 1978 and 1980. He achieved excellent results in British short circuit racing and completed three Formula 1 TT’s finishing 16th in 1978 – the year of Hailwood’s famous victory - 14th in 1979 and 18th in 1980. With a best lap time of over 100MPH, this bike is no slouch. Dave was sponsored by Mick Walker and he is pictured in Mick’s book “Ducati Desmo – The making of a masterpiece” on pages 107 and 108. Original Borrani rims are fitted. Please note that this is not a concours bike and shows signs of being raced (e. g. welded up foot rest). There is a considerable history file with letters from Mick Walker and Dave. Everything works although there is no MoT as I have not been using it. I am only selling this bike because I am now unable to kick start it! This would be a pefect bike for anyone wanting to do the proposed parade lap at the Manx this year. The price is £26,995. -
1200 DVT Desmo Service
Had the Desmo service carried out this week at Cornerspeed. The ride there and home was like chalk and cheese, the roll on from 68-70ish was a marked improvement. The bike was well cleaned when I picked it up and all the old removed parts were there if I wanted to check, didn’t really want to as his reputation proceeds him. Great job all round and doing the fuel sensor that packed up on the way up there and the temp sensor that had corroded and I never noticed. Now if he could sort out the weather as it took hours for me to thaw out. Thanks Neil for the great job. -
2012 1199s In A Carbon Frock
I don't think I posted many updates when changing the bike from it's original red to it's current look but here's a better late than never thread to capture the ongoing life of the little beasty. The short version is that I purchased 7 years ago to the month with 2.5k on the clock. Ran for a couple of years doing a couple of track days before a minor spill at Rockingham.
When sourcing new parts, I came across some carbon fairings and it went from there. This week I finally changed the old clip ons for the black powdercoated ones I had done a couple of years ago and never got round to fitting (forgot I had them). Turns out one was a little bent....
Anyway, fitted both sides and the effect is subtle but effective. It's a shame I waited til now to change them. I took the chance to replace a bolt in the lever guard as the head was mullered in the original and fitted a replacement screen.
Next was a smattering of titanium bolts that I had had for a while before it was bath time ready... -
Multistrada Muppet
Hey all, just picked up a beautiful Multistrada. First time Ducati owner and loving it. -
South African Road Trip
The Multistrada is tucked up safely in a cocoon in England and I’m in South Africa.
Been here about 2 weeks so afraid I’ve been a bit remiss not reporting before. Staying in a hired house with South African friends in a place called St Francis Bay, near Port Elizabeth. Spent the time fishing, riding e-bikes, eating, drinking and swapping stories. Now finally beginning to chill out.
The sun has been shining and I’ve needed sun tan lotion, which I didn’t need in England, suffice to say.
Today I rode 30k on an e-bike with my mates wives while my Mrs went fishing with them! How does that happen? She’s suddenly gone mad for fishing and is pretty good at it. I’ve ridden the e-bike pretty much every day and as a result I feel great, I’m going to buy one asap when I’m back. Tomorrow I’ll do another 25k, it’s not really that much but it’s enough to get you fit.
St Francis has a small canal system with thatched houses built alongside. A few years ago a fire took out a swathe of... -
New Lid - Happy Chappy :)
New lid came out exactly how I wanted it to. Chuffed is an understatement. It’s nice to have something to smile about right now as the last few months have been tough! (Insert mini violin here)
The work that goes in to these is unreal really for us plonkers to go and fire it through the gravel at a rate of knots

Monster Paintwork Ceramic Coated
Final job over the winter was to get the paintwork in order. 3 stage machine polish and a coating Krypton5 Ceramic Coating. This was after new tyres, various Ilmberger carbon parts and new chain and sprockets. Changed the wheel colour too. Black bars and the forks anodising black at some point too but probably no time now as it’s nearly time to ride. -
New Special Tool Build.
After getting my 999 back together and out for a test ride following having to drop the Oil etc to change the Stator I found myself in the position of needing to top the oil up.
Annoyingly time consuming on the 999 and other newer bikes because the fairings need to come off.
I have a long neck funnel which I could shove down inside the fairing, but the end of the neck is too big to fit the hole in the case once the cap is out.
Coincidentally, the same day I'd been to Halfords for 10l of AdBlue and topped up my Land Rover, putting the container and removeable spout in our recycling bin.
Also in the bin was an empty 2l Robinsons Apple and Blackcurrant squash bottle.
You've got there before you look at the pictures I expect, the Adblue spout is the perfect diameter and length, and with the sealing washer the top part of the Squash bottle screws in perfectly: -

Big Red But Not A Duc
I've been posting progress of this beast on other platforms but figured I'd stick it up here for interest too.
Last summer I became the custodian of a 1996 Leyland DAF 95 360ati. I was asked 18 months or so previously if I wanted it but I was unsure. Mainly because of having somewhere to park it but also the running/maintenance cost worried me. I went for it in the end because I figured that if I didn't take it on then it would end up as a shunter or even scrap.
As some folk on here know I ride with a military veteran race team in the BSB and this unit was the old wagon that used to pull the team trailer. I photographed it in 2017 and printed a picture for the owner of the wagon and that is partly why it has ended up with me. It also became costly to keep it running so was upgraded at the beginning of 2021. The unit sat for nearly two years awaiting its fate. It has been in the race paddock for most of its life, along with the trailer that it used to pull.
It started life up... -
Got Myself A Tuono Factory
So, I managed to bag myself a 2019 Aprilia V4 factory. It’s got a fair few miles on the clock but is in surprisingly good condition. It’s has a few mods, such as the Akrapovic slip-on and some fairly nice Ilmberger Carbon but unfortunately, although it’s a 2019 bike it doesn’t have the electronic suspension. Not sure it’s needed to be fair on the basis the smile induced from the intoxicating noise and my ride earlier in the week still remains on my face today. What a great piece of kit this is.
Having said all this of course and possibly being accused of being a bit fickle insofar as bikes are concerned sometimes it hasn’t stopped me swapping it for a later model. My budget wouldn’t stretch to the new MY23 model which I do prefer if I’m honest, but what the hell I’m 55 this year and still as impatient as 5 year old. If you’ve not grown up by the time you’re 40, I understand you don’t have to.
Anyway, get one.
