Ducati Monster 900 Restoration
Thought I would start a new thread... It's been a very strange year... I normally build something over winter, but this year I have been busy on my last build all spring and summer, and that is finished and at the back of the garage ready for spring.
So I have started a rebuild on a 1998 Monster 900, a bike I have always wanted to own. I like the looks, and simplicity of them, and they handle great! this will be a straight restoration and I will be keeping it looking the same save for it being red and probably gold frame and wheels. I started the stripdown yeasterday... -

The "Land of Joy" expands with the introduction of the new Ducati Scrambler Nightshift and the two new colours for the Icon and Desert Sled models
Borgo Panigale (Bologna, Italy), 12 November 2020 - The journey to discover the new Ducati 2021 range continues with the second episode of the Ducati World Première web series revealing the latest news about the two XDiavel and Ducati Scrambler families. Two worlds very distant from each other, but which share an essential trait: a unique, distinctive, and nonconformist personality.
XDiavel is a cruiser with Ducati genes; the result of the contamination between two apparently distant universes. The relaxed pace at low... -
St2 Ugly Duc-ling...
Lockdown has had one silver lining... Time to think and take action on THAT project. The one I've always wanted to do.
It is well known that design (and specifically art) is subjective. Classic design, however usually works well and looks good too, so there’s little to argue with there.
I’ve ridden Ducati’s for 20 years. I know some of you have been addicted for longer than that and others have only just started, so I hope this thread appeals to you all. It’s a personal project based on my own preferences, so I don’t expect everyone to agree. I’m certain this will cause a few debates, but then that’s part of the fun!
The Background:
The 90’s for me was the golden decade of Ducati. Galluzi (pre ST2) and Tamburini to name two of the top designers were in their prime designing the 900ss (and derivatives) the Monster and of course the 916.
Inevitably someone having experienced the ‘Ducati’s design decade’ of the 90’s will be drawn to the late 80’s / early 90’s brutal elegance of... -
Pretty V2
Hi, new to the Ducati family after years of owning Japanese sports and naked bikes, oh and a KTM 990 Superduke. Loving the Panigale V2!
Still running in - done 500miles so looking forward to being able to use it properly after 1st service.
I chose the v2 because it reminded me of the Honda SP1 l had, a bike I loved but unfortunately had stolen.
Hopefully we will have a few sunny autumn days in the East of England so I get out and enjoy it befor winter sets in. -
So...new To Me Track Bike
So there’s been a few changes in the last year with the bikes. A year ago I bought a gen 3 Beemer for track having totally fallen in love with my gen 4 beemer and to be honest it was a bit of a disaster.
Loads of small issues that ultimately pissed me off when I just couldn’t get the handling to suit me and a canbus issue that saw me lose out on pretty much 2 days at Portimao and a day at Almeria meant I’d lost interest and love for it...but was was to replace it?
loads of train of thought and ultimately I wanted to track my gen 4 Beemer but it’s such a good road bike. I looked at another gen 4 but the budget wasn’t quite there and then there’s the track prep on top.
In the end I went for a 2016 R1 with the following spec:
Stock motor (important on these I feel)
Pipe werx link pipe and end can.
CRC Racing fairings
Brand new spair set complete set of CRC fairings inc seat unit and extended full tank cover. ( unfitteded and not sprayed).
Keyless ignition
Domino quick action... -
Cheers Everyone, From Lyon, France
Hello fellow Ducati riders!
I am Guillaume, 47, from France, near Lyon, in the Beaujolais area. I work in the Air Force (celebrated 26 years active duty last summer). I have been riding motorcycles for the past 20 years, and am an absolute fan of Ducatis.
Started with a red 900 SSie from 2001, then a 2012 848 evo, a 2018 939 Supersport, and was finally able to get my hands on the holy grail, which to me, consists in the Tamburini SBKs. Today, I ride and look after a 1996 916 biposto (53,000 km) and a 998 Matrix (11,500 km).
I have traveled around the UK a little, back in the day, mostly for work but also for pleasure. Always had a blast, visited wonderful places and met wonderful people. I did run into the occasional drunk w@nker, but overall absolutely loved traveling there!
Oh and by the way, I am an absolute fan of rugby, even though I never was a player myself. I can run, love a fight every know and then, but needed to keep my body in one piece for work...

1200 10 Years Riding Multistrada 1200s
In the last 10 years, I’ve been lucky enough to own 4 Multi 1200s and clock up a total of 66,000 miles on them. I love the torque of the big V-twin engine, the good handling, superb brakes, the ease of changing suspension setup for solo or two up riding, the flexible luggage options and even the styling. I’ve enjoyed nearly every mile, even in riding in the rain. The bikes have had a few minor faults and recalls and I’ve only twice had to call out a breakdown service and one of those was arguably my fault.
The Bikes
All bikes have been the S model with the factory fitted Touring pack (panniers, main stand and heated grips) plus top box and various tank bags over the years. I’ve always fitted radiator, oil cooler and engine guards together with auxiliary LED lights, Scottoiler, Barkbusters handguard protectors, high level sat nav mount (Navihalter), and Oberon clutch slave cylinder. I’ve also got through my fair share of screens and seats on the different bikes.
I’ve only kept... -

Thank God For Smoke Alarms
I just had a fire at my house.
I was upstairs having a bath when I started to hear regular beeping from downstairs. At first I ignored it as the washing machine makes more or less the same noise when it finishes but then when it spread to upstairs I realised it was the smoke alarms.
So I ran downstairs to find that a large wicker basket containing paper and kindling wood had caught fire, as had the paper next to it, probably as a result of an spark from the fireplace. The flames were about 2ft across by 6ft high and the bottom half of the house was filled with thick, choking smoke.
Thankfully although the fire was near the door to the dining room and kitchen I was able to get past it so I could fetch the extinguisher from near the cooker. It wasn’t enough to put the fire out on its own but thankfully I have a bucket of soapy water near the back door which I use to rinse away the dog’s pee when he goes for a whizz out in the yard and that plus a refill finished it off.

The Minor Changes Continue
As the rain and wind persist, so do my minor modifications to make my 959 look like it should have, in my opinion. Following on from the 1299 exhaust change, I have now had the wheels done in Yamaha Oro Gold, at the same time fitted new wheel bearings, rear tyre and bled the brakes and clutch. Only a few other minor tweeks and it will be finished.. Then what will I do through the winter.. -
Taking The Rough With The Smooth
Been waiting for this little guy for over a year in the planning
Welcome to the family Basil -
Must Find Another Bike.
Got bad withdrawal symptoms.
Something lightweight like a Yamaha 2 Stroke 200+cc.....YR5, YDS7, RD (not LC).
I don't have the strength for heavy bikes any more.
Working runner which needs improvement / fiddling around with etc.
Something around £2K would be ideal.

Ducati Records The Best Third Quarter Ever Despite The Complex Global Situation
The third quarter closed with 14,694 total motorcycles delivered worldwide
A total of 4,468 motorcycles were delivered in September, of which the Panigale, Ducati Scrambler and Multistrada are the families with the best results
China, Switzerland and Germany, from the beginning of the year to the end of September, recorded higher sales compared to the same period in 2019
Borgo Panigale (Bologna, Italy), 30 October 2020 – Despite the complex global situation, Ducati, with 14,694 motorcycles sold, registers the best third quarter ever. In fact, September confirmed the recovery trend that began in June, with 4,468 motorcycles delivered to customers.
Since June - also thanks to the positive market trend - Ducati has started to recover the decline in performance recorded in the first months of the year, partially filling the sales gap compared to the previous year caused by the slowdowns that are affecting the whole world.
2020 is an extremely complex year due to the Covid-19... -
Rsv4 Out, V4s In
I said goodbye to my RSV4RF last Saturday. Absolutely loved it but I was so achy after every track session so I’ve come back to Ducati with a V4S.
I’ll be converting it to track over the winter, ready for Almeria in March if the travel restrictions are lifted and then Portimao in June.
OEM track fairings are on order, then off to Sublime designs for a custom Wrap, few bits of carbon and some crash protection and that’ll be it.
can’t wait for next spring! -
Hello From Santa Cruz, California
Hi everyone,
I'm a motorcycle collector, restorer and (above all) rider. I have a list of bikes that I want to own in my lifetime and I'm fortunate to have almost all of them in the workshop these days (I call them my bucket-list bikes). Among them is the 916. Two years ago, I got very lucky and was able to buy a 1994/95 916 Varese here in California. What a special bike.
Still working on replacing a few of the incorrect parts.
Among the other bikes that I am passionate about are the early 1969 Honda CB750 sandcasts. Here's a timelapse of me restoring sandcast #538:
You can check out some of my other restorations here:

Nice to meet everyone!
