Out On The 900
Not been out on the 900 for weeks due to the shitty roads etc, I always forget how nice it is to ride, also how nice it is to sit at an indicated 80 on a fully faired bike, I’ve been mainly using the 900 monster and although 80 is what I tend to do the arms do get a bit of a tug!, it backfired a bit for the first couple of miles but has now cleared, I guess it was today’s rubbish fuel causing a bit of a blockage in the primary jet due to not having used it. -
It’s Dry Enough!
Empty nest syndrome today-son away and wife and daughter haven’t been shopping for at least two days so need their fix apparently. It’s dry enough for a run out so I’m off to Stratford for a blast. Might pop into Caffeine & Machine if it’s open today -
Out With Old Tiger In With The New Mutley
Well I thought it was about time that I introduced myself. I have been lurking here for a couple of months now, soaking up all the great info here prior to my recent purchase of a Multistrada 1260 S.
Anyway this is my first Ducati and I have come from a 30,000 mile 2010 Triumph Tiger 1050. The Tiger has been toured on for the last two years, and a good proportion of that mileage was put on in that time. So with more time available to me, and having been bitten by the touring bug a more modern bike was required, and the Multi fits the bill perfectly. I am hoping to do a couple of European tours this year along with a number of trips in the UK.
Despite the dreadful weather recently, I’m a knats cock away from 1500 miles, with the first 600 miles having been dispatched within the first week. I have been very impressed with the bike so far, and can’t wait for some dryer roads.
Couple of pictures for you here of the old and new, along with some bins for Davebird.

For Sale 1198r, Deposit Taken!
Yes that's right - i decided to sell my 1198R. Its sitting here in my heated and very low humidity garage and with 4 other bikes, and with the crappy roads around here, realistically I am not going to ride it much. Plus our riding season is only about 4 months. And I also am looking to buy a vintage bike to restore and give me something to do in winter. Here is the info:
It was bought new from GP Motorcycles in San Diego by the first owner, who traded in a 1949 Vincent for it in June 2010. He kept it for four years and put only 279 miles on it, selling it in July 2014 to a well known Ducati enthusiast in LA who had it serviced and belts changed at Pro Italia in LA. While it was in the shop he also had some mods fitted - CRG carbon levers, CNC clutch cover and rearsets, fender eliminator, EVR clutch slave and Ducabike frame plugs. Termis and race ECU fitted. He rode it around LA very occasionally over the next 5 years, along with all the other bikes in his collection including a... -

1200 Time To Make A Decision
I have had my fair share of mileage and age related bits needing attention this year and with the news that the horizontal cylinder compression is at the lower end of the spec and the engine’s life is probably limited to about another 5 or 6 thousand miles, it’s time to choose a new (to me) every day/touring bike or rebuild what I’ve got.
Two major factors affecting that decision are of course my age, at 66 in 5 weeks time, I have to ask myself how long will I be physically fit enough to ride and as a pensioner, do I really want to spend funds that would be better directed at track days and other fun stuff whilst I’m relatively fit and healthy.
I like my 1200s Touring a lot and I’ve already replaced a lot of the running gear. Neither the Twin Spark nor the 1200 DVT offered any performance advantage over what I’ve got so the replacement would have to be the 1260. Mmmm, £14950 for an ex demo.
Had a long talk with the workshop to look at what a worst case scenario would be and the... -
Sunbeam S7 Deluxe
Recently became custodian of this old girl; my first classic.
So much to learn; quite fascinating. E.g. the wheels can be removed without spanners, the front mudguard stay doubles as a stand to remove the front wheel, the rear mudguard is hinged & lifts to remove the rear wheel.
I need to get her running; she has been stored away for a few years but I understand ran nicely at that point; I will then decide whether to strip & restore or keep original (ish)
Need a 6 volt battery & charger; think I have that covered now.
I need to clean the inside of the tank; it looks a bit rusty in there.
Any tips for doing this? -

Fortuitous Bike Breakdown In India
I set off this morning with the intention of riding my Bajaj Pulsar 180cc into the back of beyond, high up into the hills, exploring woodcutters paths in the jungle, something I have been doing for 25 years.
I have been warned of the danger of doing this several times, but I have absolute confidence in the reliability of my bike, in fact it has never broken down, despite being 12 years old.
I carry some basic tools and a canister of puncture repair stuff, a liter of water- phones are useless as there isn't a signal, so I rely on my experience and knowing mine and the bikes limitations on such journeys.
Anyway, I was just passing through a small village not far from the start of where I enter the jungle when the bike sputtered to a halt. A few basic checks, I had a full tank of fuel, enough for 400 miles, but no spark. I suspected the CDI unit being the culprit as a month ago when I arrived in India to pick up my bike it wouldn't start, it turned out the particularly heavy monsoon... -

Another Yank Signs On...
Hello gentlemen and gentlewomen,
Long time Ducati owner finally joining after lurking about on many Ducati sites. I'm currently located on the Virginia coast, been riding bikes since 1978 (started with a '78 Suzuki GS750 and went from there). In my "golden years", I finally scratched my Ducati 916 itch, an object of puerile lust, and for the last 6 years have been enjoying the crap out of it. In addition to honing about on the 916, I also do some touring on my BMW 1150 RS. I also enjoy restoring, resto modding and building custom old cafes, completed many, and currently keep my favorites, a 1971 Ducati 350 Café and a restomodded 1965 Honda SuperHawk. The Ducati has a fully built engine with 10.5 Borgo piston, big valves with custom flowed heads, race cam and connecting rod. The SuperHawk has a "big" bore kit (still just 350cc!), and a Nova Racing 5 speed transmission (what a sweet transmission!). Did all the work myself from the mechanicals to the powder coating and paint, so in...
