Paul Smart
First day of the season on the Smart. A bit nippy and damp, with a lot of debris on the roads - bit of an April Fool maybe?
This is one of only 2000 made to celebrate Paul Smart’s Imola 200 race victory in 1972. I bought this in 2016 from a nice gent in Suffolk who also had a Norton Dominator SS. So far I have loved it. It is certainly a different riding experience from what I’m used to.
The unusual thing about this bike is that I have noticed a trend that people seem to chase me down the road with curiosity and grab me at the petrol pumps. This may be a testament to Ducati’s styling department or may be there are just too few around. -
1260 1200 Abs ('11) Vs 1200s ('15) Vs 1260s
After a considerable wait, the time has come to get my hands on the new 1260S. Together with two friends (one being the owner of the '15 1200S) we got the bike for about two hours and headed to the nearby mountainous areas to test it in the twisties. So we got a chance to do a comparison of the "old" '11 1200 ABS (mine), the next gen '15 1200S and the newest 1260S, by swapping. All the bikes were tested in sports mode, the suspension in default/middle for that setting and they all had the original equipment, except mine that has shorter gearing (42t in the back). Other than that, no changes (no after market exhausts, no quickshifter for the older ones etc.). So, let's see ...
The motors
All motors are great. Period. Quite different in the way they output the power but just great. I don't think you can ask for much more from either of the three. The 1260 is probably the winner but not by much and not for sheer power. There are absolutely no hickups in higher gears and low engine... -

Cmw Chichester...
A big thank you to all their help regarding my 996R service history. Nick was very willing to spend time helping me, so I had to buy all the team at CMW biscuits when he refused any monetary reward for his time.
The bike had full supplying main dealer service history up until around 2007 in the book. After checking with CMW they had full records right up until it's current mileage and had 5 further services on their records. On posting the service book Nick added all the services and sent me copy of all invoices from the services too. He even stamped the book with their historical Ducati Dealer stamp so it is period correct as they are no longer a dealer.
I couldn't have expected any more than the help they gave - pity they are not still a Ducati dealer from my experience -
Never Ridden A Bike Before
Until last October I had never even sat on a motorbike never mind ridden one. After a short trip to Snell Ducati a brand new Supersport S had been purchased and my DAS had been booked... however I had ‘forgotten to inform the war department’ of my newly found love for motorbikes but she was fine when I confessed what I had done.
Passed the tests, been out for a few rides, commuted to and from work and have alps trips planned for the summer. Absolutely adore my supersport, it’s plenty fast enough to scare me but well mannered to keep me out of trouble.
So, if you see a white Supersport with full Akra system tootling around Surrey, it’s probably me. -

The Meaning Of Life, Why Are We Here And All That Stuff.
The hardest thing about this post is deciding what title to give it because as you will see there is a meaning to it. I don't even know what section to put it in, so El Toro if you think there's a better section please move it.
Today I waved bye bye to my beloved ST4. It was a relatively quick decision over the past week or two but I have no doubt it was the right decision. I'd had no intention of selling it. I'd done loads of 'smiles' on it and it was a great road bike with huge mid range torque which I really enjoyed. I shall miss it. However, it was sad day but it was good day.
One of my oldest school friends has had a tough time, a really tough time. Added to that he's had a couple of brushes with 'The Big C' and it may not be all over yet. I just wanted to improve his life and I figured his need is greater than mine. Well it is. So I gave it to him.
What sparked it off was going to three funerals in two months. It makes you think.

748 Newly Purchased 748 Sp
Just purchased a 748SP for a decent price although it needs a little work......clutch slave has had a dump and ruined the engine paint, rear ohlins spring paint is flaking off and various other cosmetic issues to deal with! Bike has a genuine 10000kms on the clock and a load of paperwork with it, last year had a full service including belts at Ducati which was seemingly in the religion of a grand. Working away at the minute so only briefly saw the bike Sunday fired it up and gave it a quick once over......then shook hands on it!
Will upload more pictures hopefully this weekend of it and maybe some bins! P.s it’s not the little one!
I’ve already got an 848 corse SE and like the way that rides so hopefully this new toy will be a nice little project to mint up back to standard so I can enjoy it.
I will be grateful for any advice and answered questions as I’m sure I’ll have a few stripping the bike down and cleaning it up! -
Ducati Group: Growing Sales, Turnover And Results
In 2017 Ducati delivered 55,871 motorcycles, achieved a turnover of € 736 million and profits of € 51 million
Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding: “A result that confirms the soundness of our strategy of investing in new products”
Financial data presented during the annual AUDI AG press conference
Borgo Panigale (Bologna) / Ingolstadt, 15 March 2018 – Ducati closes 2017 with convincing results, prolonging the trend of constant growth that has characterised the Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer's last eight years. 55,871 motorcycles were delivered to customers all over the world (+0.8% vs. 2016), despite the global market for motorcycles bigger than 500 cc actually shrinking by 3.5%. By the end of 2017 turnover had reached € 736 million, representing another step forward in a growth trend that has seen sales increase by nearly 30% over the last five years. The operating result was € 51 million (2016: € 51 million) with an operating margin of 7%.

For Sale Ducati Darmah
1978 original UK bike, 14600 miles, has had a fair amount spent on it mainly for recommissioning. I bought it a few years ago, used it for the summer 2016. It's all in superb condition fully serviced and set up really well so it's nice to ride and easy to start.
Viewing welcome, I'm located in Southport.
I'm looking for £14950, I may take a P/X

Hydrodipping
As some of us here have had parts hydrodipped and had to pay a high price for the service I have decided to have a go myself.
I have purchased a kit initially just using the carbon fibre film but as we know there are thousands of options available, and a largish water tank and I intend to practice on a mate’s fairings from his track bike.
I will post my results for your approval or disapproval.
If all goes well I will be offering this service to anybody who wants it at a lot less than the retailers as being retired my costs are nowhere near as high.
Keep your eye out, if you hear nothing then I f****d up. -
1199 Gold Wheels
Hi All,
I’ve been busy stripping my bike down and giving it a good clean and changing a few bits and pieces up. I always feel better about a new bike once I’ve had it stripped down to give it a good check over.
I have always been a fan of the gold wheels on the Ducati’s so while I had it in stripped down I decided to give it a go and see if I preferred them gold. I painted them with rubber plasti dip paint so if I’m not sure I can peel it off. I’m pretty happy with the end result.
I’ll probably leave the plasti dip paint on until later on in the year and then have the wheels painted if I decide to go all in with the gold.
