Ducati Ready To Celebrate The 25th Anniversary Of The Monster
A programme of events and initiatives to celebrate the anniversary of the iconic Ducati Naked bike
A special celebratory parade on 24 March in France at the “Sunday Ride Classic 2018”
25 years on from the start of production, Ducati displays a 1993 Monster 900 at the Bologna museum
·
Borgo Panigale, (Bologna, Italy), 5 March 2018 – Twenty-five years have passed since the first Monster left the factory in Borgo Panigale, Bologna. Since its presentation to the public and the press at the “Intermot” international exhibition in Cologne in 1992, and its launch onto the market in 1993, this iconic Ducati model has brought a radical change to the world of motorcycles, creating a brand new sector – the naked sport bikes – and generating one of the most devoted communities of enthusiasts.
It's an important anniversary for Ducati, a moment full of activities and initiatives to celebrate this significant landmark. Among the events is a Monster rally organised in France at the... -
1098 Just Done My First Valve Check & Adjustment
Just done my first valve check and adjustment on my 07 plate 1098S at 24k miles. It’s had 2 previously but not by me.
Lots of patience required and hellishly tedious but not complicated and immensely satisfying.
Bought a 4V-7mm shim kit from Mike at EMSDUC along with an engine turning tool, digi micrometer, new belts and JPdiag loaded on my PC to tune them at 110Hz.
Shim kit not cheap but well worth having a wide selection. Despite this, I still needed to lap a few in on sand paper to get the right gaps. But the results were worth it.
But what a feckin pain in the arse job. You can see why people charge so much for doing it.
Hopefully a few pics and a table showing the final clearances and shim sizes used.

Anything Nurburgring Related Thread
Mods, couldn't decide where to put this but thought you will move it if need be.
Right, I live near the Ring and work there as an instructor in cars.
20 years ago I first came here for TF on my bike with snow on the ground, have had a house here for 12 years and have thousands of laps experience.
Long gone from the place is the stream of bike mags doing tests. But there is always a stream of brits venturing here for the track. Some come for tourist sessions on bike or in car. Some just curious about what they have read or seen on TV/youtube. Some pass thru on tours.
So if you have any questions about the place/area please feel free to ask on this thread.
We also have two guestrooms available

Maybe put up videos and other stuff that may be interesting.
Lets kick off with the fastest lap on a bike. My good mate Andy. -
1198 1198r
So this has just come up for sale here in France, I've just had a long chat with the vendor and it would appear all kosher. Supplied by Ducati Caen in Normandy (who I can call tomorrow), history, genuine R etc. The price is 17,000€.
Someone is viewing it tomorrow afternoon and if it doesn't go straight away, I'll be heading off on a 1000kms journey tomorrow evening.

V4 An Honest Review From A Sceptic
I just want to start off by saying that I don’t buy in to ‘launch fever’. It’ll probably be noted on this forum that I’ve been fairly on the fence and sceptical about the new v4.
Anyway I’m a current 1299 owner and I have had the v4 for the day today (covering varied roads and a fair few miles) and just wanted to share my thoughts and observations of the bike, keeping to the facts and not too much opinion.
I’ll start off with the motor, which at low revs sounds a bit like a monster onboard (no bad thing). Throttle input is better than the outgoing bike and more responsive. The motor spins up very quickly and has a smoother broader range to it.
To me it feels like the v4 has more usable power for the road and is certainly far less of a handful.
As for speed, anyone who says that this bike ‘feels’ ballistically quick clearly hasn’t ridden an s1000rr or 1299 at its full pottential. It is fast, very in fact however it doesn’t have the rush that some other litre bikes have. It’s very... -
Today Was A Special Day
Well guys and girls, it's not about Ducati but it certainly has some racing pedigree and it was like fulfilling a boyhood dream for me
Yesterday I was lucky enough to be invited to a McLaren test driver day at Millbrook Proving Ground. I got to drive a McLaren 570s around the Alpine course with blind crests, jumps, accelarating flatout and breaking hard into insane off camber hairpins just like Bond in Casino Royale, around the oval track at over 130mph and down the mile straight where I reached 180mph before stamping on the brakes and lastly comparing a Porsche 911 Turbos S with the McLaren on a salom course. I didn't like the Porsche though
I've never done a car track day (and only 1 on a bike 7 years ago) and I've never been to Millbrook but I felt pretty damn good when my co driver said, "you obviously do track days"
The day ended with a couple of laps with one of the McLaren test drivers showing me what the car is capable of on a track, which left me with a... -

V4 Speciale On The Way!
I just opened an e-mail from my super helpful dealer (Claus Carstens, Ducati Schleswig-Holstein) in Germany to advise me that the Speciale I ordered at EICMA in november is 100% confirmed as mine and the build is under way, 40,205€ delivered and including the magnesium wheels. That just leaves 35,000€ to find, ha ha.
This will be my first foray into the modern Ducati world and my first new Ducati since the 916 era so I'm very much looking forward to it as according to Claus they are fantastic (he would say that wouldn't he) and easily outclass anything from the previous era!
