First Car - Thoughts?

  1. I would be looking at "unfashionable" cars, as anything which is popular with youngsters such as polo`s, clios, saxo`s etc will all statistically be a higher risk for insurance companies as more kids have crashed them and therefore they will load the premium up no end.

As someone else mentioned, adding an older more experienced driver to the policy can reduce it, although when I renewed my car insurance this year, taking my parents off the policy actually reduced it.

Typically I usually log into one of the insurance comparison sites and have a good play with seeing what they will charge me for different cars. The results are sometimes amazing.

  2. All 4 of mine have started with a 1.2 Corsa. Cheap enough to buy and run. Insurance is reasonable (and a tracker/curfew option gets it down even more). Not too much poke for a new driver. Modern enough to have reasonable safety features. Good re-sale prospects. Gets my vote every time :upyeah:

  3. I really like the idea of a two seater, as its the passengers that often create the issues. Smart car is on the list
