First Ride Out On The 1098, First Ever Broken Down Bike.

  1. Swapping over the relays might not be very conclusive.. They are in the same area and both suffer from corrosion problems. Fit new would be my suggestion before you go hunting for other issues.

  2. I think you are right Nelly. To be honest it's the last thing I can do before conceding and getting it picked up by the shop. At least 80% of the things I've read that had the same problem turned out to be the relay.

Although mine look ok, it's worth the few quid to put it to rest.

Do all relays need to be in place for bike to start? Someone previously mentioned the headlight uses the same type. Could try that one first.

I'm replacing them with new whatever the outcome.

  3. Test out the relays to prove they work. Should have a diagram on it to show input and load connections. Worth testing first.

  4. Yes - the one for the headlight is the same, if you want to try and swap.
The relays are a ~£2 ago on ebay....:upyeah:

  5. FIXED!!!

I was adamant that after reading all the other articles with people having the same problem and finding it to be the relays that mine too must be this. Went out again this morning to have another look and it suddenly clicked that when I turn the ignition on the fuel pump wasn't priming up. Thought it must be a duff relay. Took then out again cleaned them up even tho they were clean and swapped the fan relay for the coil/injection/fuel pump and put the other one in the fan slot. Bingo, rule pump primed, error codes disappeared and it fired into life. So after all that it was the relay.

Went into Ducati and got the only relay they had luckily and ordered another two more for spares.

Put the new one in the coil/injection/fuel pump and the original back in the fan. NOTHING. wouldn't work. swapped them over (fan relay into the coil/injection/fuel pump and new one in the fan slot. WORKED.

Ran the bike to 103 to see if the relay would power the fan and it kicked in so I'm at a loss with that one. they should be the same relay so should work on both things.

Going to take the bike out for a run to see what happens.

    wish me luck

  7. Ah, you didn't say the fuel pump wasn't priming :)

  8. Ha. It didn't even occur to me to listen to it for the tell tale sign of it priming. Soon as I realised I hadn't checked the sound it all fell into place.

Can't work out why the new relay didn't work. I'll order some different ones.

Been out tonight and all seems good. Plus the more I get out on the bike the more I love it. It's mad. Like a 1000bhp tractor.

Also bought another extra for it that seems essential..... AA cover.

  9. So true...
