The 2013 needs a bit of preload added to the default settings especially in Urban mode. The reason could be to lower the ride height in Urban mode. Probably not needed on the new one. The sensor on the shock should help as well.
A bit more than a test ride as I've now got 280 miles on my standard 1200 with touring pack which I collected yesterday afternoon. I posted first thoughts in the newbies section. This is my first MTS so can't compare against the previous model. I'm also 6'1" and ride a K13S (plenty of grunt and speed) to put things in to some perspective. The motor's lovely and pulls sweetly with very little vibration, almost to the point that it doesn't feel like a twin except for the exhaust note. And at running-in revs (well sort of) it feels like it will pull from most any point on the rev band. It will be good to see how it behaves at higher revs where I'm sure it will be happier. The screen is a waste of space and needs to be changed. Up or down it creates a lot of helmet noise. In the down position, if I lift off the seat things get noticeably more quiet. In the up position it's far to noisy. Heated grips just about do the job when set on maximum. The K13's are toasty even on the low setting. However, you can't adjust them on the move without releasing the throttle, unless you have fingers twice as long as mine! Right foot position is proving to be a problem but I'm sure it will settle with time. If I ride on the ball of the foot my heel is pushed out by the exhaust heat shield. Full seat height for me is fine. I can put both feet flat on the floor but I'm also a 33" inside leg I did feel the bike suffered when coming up behind high speed traffic (dual carriageways etc.) as the turbulent air made for extra work. The same was true for windy conditions. Mind you, the K13S is much lower so it may just be me changing from one riding style to another. asked today for a connector to fit on to my Garmin sat nav power cable - that'll be a Ducati one at £109 please sir! Oh no it bloody won't! Now need to source the female for the connector. That all said, no bike is perfect. Cornering was excellent and so far (touch wood) the Scorpion Trails have worked well including back B roads, both dry and wet. Just about got to the edges and seem to be fine although on a couple of corner exits the back seemed to track a very slightly wider line - but that's probably just me. Suspension needs setting (that's already planned). Back isn't too bad but front is a bit soft on compression. Again, it's a big change from a BMW, but it does need sorting for me. other than that, I'm looking forward to more miles and making it mine.
