V4 Fitting Spider Sbk Rearsets

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Jamessd, Jan 7, 2021.

  1. Well having fitted this exact set and what comes in the box, to this exact bike less than a couple of months ago myself, I can say from this experience that What is provided in the box is inadequate!
Now you can either compromise and get it to fit by moving stuff
    Or
You can fit it properly maintaining the correct angles which does involve making stuff which then isn’t a compromise

the difference between fitting something and just bolting something on.

  2. I hear you mate but when you say correct angle, there isn't really a stipulation for this. The standard set is purely for the set angle of the lever.

MR wouldn't be doing it otherwise

  3. Can't you move the footrest part back a hole? (Or is it at the furthest hole back). Then the holes look like they'd line up.

  4. Could just get someone else to do it..... then tell us all about it..

  5. Problem is if you move it on the shaft it can mess the fulcrum point up... so it will either not extend or push past a certain point.... I’d definitely look at modify the rod or like I said purchase one that’s already the correct length. Its a little hit and miss with some of this aftermarket kit! I have quite a few spare rods here for exactly that purpose. As your rod is to long I’d go with shortening it...

  6. In fact looking at your picture it looks straight forward enough to take say 8/10mm off both sides of the black rod. That should be plenty. Just make sure you still have enough depth in the rod. If not just drill and tap down a further 8\10 mm....

or ditch both rods and invest in one that’s the full length.... Ie direct off the OE quickshifter.... Hope that makes sense....

  7. I’ve been in contact with the supplier who came back to me with the attached photo that they obtained from Spider. Interestingly the OEM part of the rod in their photo (i.e. the silver part that’s connected to the quick shifter) is significantly shorter than the one that’s fitted to my bike. That means that the 80mm extension supplied with the rearsets is the correct length for whatever flavour of V4 that Spider based their design on, but doesn’t work for mine (a 2018 V4S).

My guess is that they used a Speciale, since those come with Rizoma rearsets as standard, which probably meant a shorter OEM shift rod (I checked the parts list for the Speciale and it does lists two OEM rods so that backs up the theory).

Waiting for further feedback from the supplier, in the meantime I’ve ordered a 50mm rod from HM Quickshifter per Dave’s suggestion and will see if that does the trick.
