1200 Fixed!! 15k Service Done, Now No Power!!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by 636mick, May 18, 2019.

  1. I recommend Iain at RPM in Northampton, he has been looking after my bikes for over 25 years and is excellent and not too far from you in Rugby. Can't be him you are referring to as he does not have an apprentice.

  2. Nope not him. But thanks for the recommendation.

  3. Right, all fixed!!!!
It was the exhaust valve, as soon as I took the exhaust off and saw the valve closed I knew it was that. It was stiff, not moving freely, so I dremelled the flap off, test ride, superb.
Really pleased, a tiny bit peed off that the garage didn’t test ride it but I would guess that as he had the bike for a week longer than promised I had put pressure on him to finish it and he didn’t ride it. Shame as the performance now is better than its ever been.
Cheers for all the ideas, just pleased it’s sorted as I’m off to Italy, Austria, Germany in a few weeks.
Just got to fit the alarm when I get to the girlfriends tomorrow.

  4. Good, glad it was something simpler than the belts

  5. And me, wasn’t looking forward to another week without the bike!!

  6. So what happened to the valve between dropping it off and picking it up.....how long was the bike at the indi for the service....a few months to give the valve a chance to sieze?

  7. They dont take months. Can be fine one ride, stuck the next. It’s such a poor design.

  8. The bike was there for 11 days, it was fine when it went in, the bike doesn’t often sit unridden for 11 days so I guess that caused it?

  9. especially during a service....

  10. What do you suggest the service did that made the flapper stick then..

  11. More that they didn’t test ride. Half a job...

  12. wrong way around!!
surely in the knowledge that the valves stick there should of been some attention paid to it so ensure it was ok or lubed or sprayed with wd 40 or hit with a hammer or something...

  15. If the bikes went ion for a belt service, its fair to assume that’s what’s done.

Same as chain adjustment. Is visual check normally and rarely adjusted.

  16. It went in for a 15k service, belts, valves, plugs, oil, chain, I’m willing to bet that valve doesn’t get mentioned anywhere, not even on an official dealer service sheet. Why would it if Ducati don’t recognise it as an issue??

  17. You’re right. The fact is that not a single Ducati has the stock exhaust here in Italy, we are really allergic to the idea and Ducati knows it XD . Anyway, yes it is a bad design, here we simply exclude it if we want to maintain the stock exhaust, but the bike has so much torque drop because of that exhaust that we replace or modify it almost every time. Really good looking stock exhaust, but with many problems.

No but every good or official dealer knows the most frequent problems of a single model... exhaust valves, lateral bike stand sensor, display not so waterproof if you use the high pressurised water... every dealer has a list, but with many bikes in the shop maybe they payed less attention. I’ve seen worse here, but I have to do 5km to the official dealer, I would be pissed too if it was 50 km away, so I understand the frustration.

  18. PLus most punters wouldn’t want the extra half hr too strip and clean and replace. Why play someone an extra £40 plus when its a quick join at home (a 5 min job is still half hr at most dealers)
