Fixing indicators on m695

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Lucazade, Jan 21, 2014.

  1. The additional pin on the 3 wire relay is usually for a warning lamp. The teminals are usually marked X, L and P
X is the +12v. L is to the indicator switch and P is to the warning (pilot) lamp. Connecting it to earth is not a good idea.

Some 3-pin flasher relays, notably Japanese, do have a 3rd connection to earth so you need to know what kind of a flasher relay you have.

The 2 terminal relays have one connection to 12V and the other to the switch like the circuit below. The warning light is wired across the left and right indicator circuits. It won't work for LEDs though.

  2. I have the 3 pin relay and yes warning light comes of the centre one (p or r). It is not pilot light as I havedisconnected that and no change.

  3. Hi Derek,

Well I think I have found it (or disturbed something in my attempt to find it ....).

In short monster tea tray was changed by Ducati about y2k time. Old one was one unit tea tray and plate holder. All bolted to frame form top. Indicator wires running from under it. However that meant loads of road crap was thrown on connectors plus they were visible.

New one is a sandwich option. Tea tray from top, frame and then plate holder from bottom. All held together by bolts squashing it.
Indicator wires run along the frame between tea tray and frame. Right side V+ cable was stripped and soldered to frame by the time I found it. There is very little space there and I think it rubbed against tea tray till it opened up. Then made contact with ground.
As it is before light bulb removing it made no difference.

I am back in indicator land .... I think I will go do MOT quickly :)

  4. The least I had to open up so much of loom and remove so many parts I have routed cables even better.

  5. I'm glad to hear you found the source of the fault Luca and now you how to stop it happening again I'm sure you'll have no further problem. Stevek in the Multistrada forum has done a similar mod successfully to his MTS1000. Good luck with your MoT.

  6. It might turn out to be a popular mod ;) Thx again for help

  7. Derek ..... Well erm one more question.

So I have the cable that feeds 12V to relay (49). Then there is the pin that connects to cable that is being switched but the switch (49a). Those are the only two I need for indicators to flash. If I bridge them indicators come one (which side depends from position of indicator switch) but obviously do not flash. Now the 49a pin has a constant current of about 10v. It is something controlled by ECU as 10v stays there after ignition is off (lights off, dash dead) until immobiliser light kicks in.

Should that 10v be there? It does not activate the indicators or makes the relay flash however it does keep the idiot light a glow all the time?

  8. Sorry I just picked up on this. The switched side of the flasher relay (49a) should only connect to the switch and through it to which ever side is selected. There will be a voltage on it from the relay as long as the ignition is switched on. There may be some dash function that holds it on for longer after the ignition is off but as long as it works as it should I wouldn't worry.

  9. Thx, asking as relay got damaged, granted it could have been from the shorting issue earlier. Put my old m900 relay and will monitor
