I've got some somewhere for NL stillages, you can't see much, packed to the nines, wrapped in plastic wrap etc
Get your bike on, cover it in a thick blanket/duvet then load everything else. If there's something soft between the bike and whatever you're stacking around it they don't tend to get marked. I have seen a blade hanging out of a stillage still on the wagon when I was collecting mine that the straps had snapped so it had tipped over, luckily the opposite strap held it within the stillage.. just about.
Packed out In a more ideal situation as seen here, if you are sharing with a mate, you can admin spread as I have done here. Tyres everywhere
Yes- I've seen people cocooning new road bikes in bubble wrap. You need some track fairings that you're not so precious about.
I have the not too precious bit well covered. The bike is not a show pony looks wise. Hopefully we have an even number of us travelling together and we don’t have to draw straws for the odd man out!
I've stillage buddied with strangers before (not on the first date though), with no issues. Will be fine...
I don’t remember there being any stillages in the late noughties. You certainly didn’t have to load your own kit. For the half a dozen or so euro days we went on back in the day, it was a simple case of driving to the drop off, sticking some masking tape on your kit and writing your name on it. That was it. You then flew out to “fill in country of choice” rock up to the pit garages and there’s all your kit in a nice tidy pile next to the bike.
FE were still doing it that way up until quite recently, only stopped when the North Korean shipyard completed his stillages.
You are worse than a gentrified woman vegan who goes to an overpriced Whole Foods to spend half day choosing between various flavours of organic water. Just put that average looking bike on the stilage and wrap in 2gbp cheap foil and be done with it.
The potential to damage the bike was not really the main question. More: What can you sensibly get on the stillage, kit wise. I am sorry to hear that your weekly shop in the overpriced whole foods shop is being spoilt by a gentrified woman vegan and her lack of ability to choose her preferred beverages at the drinks fridge. Perhaps ask you mrs to shop on her own in future?
the stillages are loaded 2 high and if you have a high screen like a TT screen it may be higher than the side of the stillage and it could get damaged, if it is lower than the 4 legs on the stillage it should be fine i normally stack spare tyres on top of the bike that are above the screen but below the 4 legs. I am in Andalucía 8th-11th Nov may see you there
Thanks for that. I’ve got an aftermarket screen but it’s not particularly high so I’m sure it’ll be fine.
you show up with all the shit possible from your man cave and start stacking it up until it overflows. Half of it won't be of any use anyway. Just don't forget to take the annodize spare bits in case of a crash
