i wouldn't stress, it's the British way, aye yer too wee, or stupid. if subsidies are necessary then so be it. it will benefit the wider area. good luck. :smileys:
Good point, and thanks for the link. There is also the similar problem of over-optimism in private sector projects. Dorna agreed a 5-yr contract to hold MotoGPs at a non-existent circuit. Why would they do this? Presumably in order to twist the arms of Silverstone and Donington next time, by asserting that there was an alternative. We do not know the terms of the Dorna/Wales contract, but it is a fairly safe bet that it must include a get-out clause for Dorna if the circuit is not built and usable by some fixed date. That date has probably passed, or soon will do, with still no circuit. So the interesting question obviously arises: when will Dorna pull the plug and repudiate the contract? Presumably as soon as they can see a commercial advantage in doing so. And that date may be drawing near.
Can't see them struggling with crowds given the popularity it already has for biking as a country. Oulton park up the road doesn't seem to struggle with BSB or GT cars and looking at the plans the circuit promises to be at least as beautiful a setting and as exciting course wise. Suggestions that a new circuit opening means another closes..... Erm.... ok.... Of course the UK can only have one of everything.
I think it’s the typical British mentality tbh. Moan when we perceive we don’t have enough of something then moan some more when someone tries to rectify it.
It has been agreed that Silverstone will host the British GP next year on behalf of CoW with the first race in Wales in 2017. It's more than a little premature to be talking of pulling the plug! All of the new big circuits that have been built in the last few years have agreed to host a major race series long before a spade has been put in the ground, this is not a new situation... I really want this development to work out, primarily because I love the idea of having a brand new, cutting edge motorsports facility in the UK, but also to put 2 fingers up to the prophets of doom...
Cool. So now if Spain can have 4 GPs, we will now be able to have The Welsh GP as well as The English GP. Sounds like a result!
I watched an interview with the chief "talking head" from the developement company on telly some months ago. To say he was evasive/uninformed throughout would be a gross understatement. In common with more or less everyone in South Wales I wish this project the best of luck and would certainly support the circuit if built but .....
