  3. Right I'm going into the gym now so you lads will have to wait - I'm sure you'll survive for further pearls of wisdom (!) However, it'll be an early start on the ale after lunch so you might get to guffaw at a few daft typos and punctuation errors. Later!

  4. Hero!

  5. And Korky the Cat.

  6. Mockery has always been acceptable. Ever read any Shakespeare or Molière. They wrote whole plays that mocked an entire class/religion/social strata. More recently Ben Elton vis à vis Margaret Thatcher etc

  7. If you spent from now until your dying day at the IVP you still wouldn't be dignified.
Your getting Ideas way above your station.

  12. People who have had to fight for their freedom, who have had to take risks to escape tyranny, and who have had to work hard to build a decent life are most likely to be glad and appreciative of the benefits of living in a free and prosperous country.

Those of a later generation who have never had to struggle take those benefits for granted. They readily assume that the grass is greener elsewhere. The more dim-witted ones are keen to tear down everything which has been built up by their predecessors, because they foolishly imagine this will be an improvement.

    It was ever thus.

  13. There's a difference between total cost pa and lives lost pa.

If you wanted to save lives then ban smoking and drinking. I don't get the "taxes pay for the treatment" argument either - the argument could also go the other way that if smokers and drunks/alcoholics weren't cluttering up the wards then there would be more room to treat diseases like cancer. But that it a very simplistic view.

I can already see the decline in religion in my generation, and even more so in younger generations. I would hope that this new wave of "questioners" will see religion for what it is and the human race can continue to evolve. One could comment that certain religions/countries are a few hundred years behind the rest of the world, but maybe that would be flippant too.

I did catch something on facebook that was an interesting viewpoint:
Tulsi Gabbard slams Obama's refusal to say 'Islamic extremism' - Washington Times

  14. Yes, this view that Obama doesn't appear to understand the threat represented by IS and other militant groups has been floating around for some time. I've even heard it said that Obama does nothing to fight Islamic terrorism.

Is Obama indulging in diplomatic double-speech or is he a secret fundamentalist Islamist? Opinions?

  16. I'm sure someone within his Government understands the threat.

The interesting thing for me was this statement:
“If that’s really the cause, then the solution would be just to give them a trophy, give them a hug, give them a good-paying job, $10,000, and a skateboard so they can go and get their thrills and say, ‘OK, great, they are going to be happy and they won’t be fighting anymore,’” she said. “That’s not the case. … We’ve got to look at what their ideology is and how that’s fueling these tragic attacks that keep on occurring.”
