Four Grand Markup On First Two Speciale In The Uk :(

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Monners, Apr 7, 2018.

  1. Hey slow boy :)

  2. If it's working for them then it's working. We don't have to buy bikes from them, but if I was really not minded for cash (think; minted sort... likely drops 70+ thousand for a Range Rover every thre
:p ...it's only early in the season, I'm not limber yet.

  3. While i agree that the £4k mark up is a trifle optimistic, i 100% agree with Terry; don't buy from them.

What i do feel is a ridiculous comment is the one on the screen grab from Glen Collins regarding profiteering - they are a business ffs. Shock, horror, a business is in it for the profit.

  4. In other news, people pay silly premiums to be early adopters of all kinds of products, iPhones being a prime example.

  5. Is it still possible to get a Desmo for that sort of money, £40K? I look at that as a desirable exotic special, and this as a bike with a paint job. I know it is more than that with the components but not in the same league, in my opinion.

  6. Ducati do have a list of preferential buyers as they were contacted when the Superleggera was announced. People who want to buy a bike and not to make a quick buck.

  7. Asking price is one thing. Sale price is another. I doubt any mug will pay overs on a Speciale. I was offered one by my dealer (bike, not drugs) and I'm no mover shaker in the Ducati world. Can't remember the lead time as I wasn't interested. The V4S matches it in performance with a zorst and upmap. Whilst I own my V4, it'll never be on a public highway. It'll spend it's early life being razzed round a race track... Whe heeeey!!!!

And as for the Porsche GTxxx market. That's another level. New bikes don't exist in the same (market) league. And yes, it's annoying- rich twats getting richer- jammy bastards, ha ha.... Latest GT2RS retails at 211k. I see they're being flipped now at 580k (asking). Canny wee mark up.

  8. Say what what? Reverse snobbery? What a silly thing to say. You want to be able to have one of the first few in the country to say you have one, then pretend that the new model premium shouldn't apply to you.

All those daft apeths complaining about new model premiums are the daft apeths creating the market and dealers know they exist so they use it. If you were a dealer and knew you could get a 4k premium for the same bike because you had one of the first few, you would charge it, be honest, it's easy money.

If you are one of those who want to spend 35k on a bike that will probably never see a road then absolutely your right to do so, but please do not act all sanctimonious when the very market you are complaining about, is the market you openly take part in.

  14. Nearly 45 years, 42 of them with the same employer. To be fair, an inheritance played a big part in this particular purchase and being a life long bachelor with no kids or mortgage has helped  Andy

  15. Good few years back I bought a 916sps as a parallel import from a car dealer/Ducati enthusiast based near Hastings, and saved a fair bit over my local Ducati dealer (at time Hoss Elm was the main importer for the UK). Before I paid up I checked with Ducati re warranty as it wasn’t a bike destined for UK and wasn’t from Ducati main dealer. They told me that any Ducati dealer had to honour the warranty, and that proved correct (although did receive nasty phone call from Hoss)

  17. If you have the cash and want to spend it how you want, absolutely your right and no jealousy here.

What I will say is that whatever hobby/interest/obsession I've been interested in, rarity and exclusivity have always come with a premium and you have to make your own mind up if you want to pay it or not.

  18. Mirrored my experience at the around the same time. Dealer was pissy, but had no choice but to do the work. Don't see the problem, they just bill the factory don't they?
