We were just coming out of the large town where I am in the hospital and make our way up the side of a large hill or mountain set the hyena for a good view. I have no idea how that driver managed to cause that accident all I saw was them suddenly appearing between the van I was following and the car they were trying to pull in behind going to fast hitting the car it's in the van then hitting another car on their side of the road and then coming straight at us no time to react just aimed for the flat is lowest point and that was it. We drive around France a lot also Italy and many other European countries and really enjoy it. The drivers are pretty good and always get out of your way except the ones that decide to drive straight at you of course. And the people you meet are really friendly to bikers.
What a shame, you are the other side of the country from us. Hope you have a speedy recovery, our health system is very good, and the staff are normally fantastic. The hospital food leaves a little to be desired though.

Good god that sound like you both had a lucky escape considering the circumstances ,GWS. I spent three and a half months in Epsom District Hospital after my "Biggy" i was laid up for three months of that so i feel your pain....Literally
So glad to hear you are both soon going home. Driving in France is normally great for us on bikes. Hope you both make a full recovery. Maybe try and stay in the French hospital for as long as possible, generally better than in the UK. Please let us know how you are getting on. And our system does not pussyfoot around when it comes to bad drivers. I knew a chap who was drinking and driving and ended up killing his mate. The French justice system had him selling his house to pay the pension to his mates family! Harsh but fair. On the whole French drivers are pretty good at spotting bikes and giving them as much room as they can, but there are bad drivers in every country. In the 12 years that we have been biking here we have had 3 near misses and every one has been a Belgian registered car. I am sure that ColT and his wife will recover and the bike can be replaced. Onward and upward.
Sounds good. When I rode through, all was good as gold apart from the Garmin taking us through central Paris in the worst traffic. Only incident in that country was a mate running over and flicking up on of your orange roadworks flags into me. Tried my best to catch it and would have ridden to Mugello and back with it proudly on display. The reality was it hit me in the chest and hurt! [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Best wishes for a full recovery and hope the pain is bearable for you both As a many broken bones veteran, be patient healing and don't let your enforced immobility frustrate you into doing something that will set you back. CoIT, What an awful piece of bad luck and so glad that both you and your wife are in 'reasonably good nick', all things considered. As lots of people have already noted, the bike can be replaced and with time you will hopefully both fully recover, to then think about getting back on a bike again, even though almost certainly a million miles from the head right now!! Keep on improving and take the recovery period slowly, but surely, taking on board 'almost' all the good advice you will receive in spade-loads. Keep getting well the two of you and I hope things all fall into place, including the right type of support from Bennetts.
