  2. I wish you and your clearly lovely wife a speedy recovery and hope you can get back on the new new bike soon. Highly recommend getting the ferry down to Santander and making the most of the deserted (and safe) Spanish and Portuguese roads for your next big trip to blow the demons away.

Keep us posted how the insurance company performs.

  3. tbh ,, after several long boring and often cold traversings of france from all directions that is going to be my next move,, even if it does cost a fair bit more,, so so fkn pissed off with french roads , paige and rain !!! ( tbf, the south west , perpignon crossing is nice )

  4. What rain? Has been 33c and wall to wall sunshine again today. There might be rain in the north but that is 450 miles away.

  5. my point exactly, there is always rain somewhere there, and if you do enough miles in a day it will get you sooner or later,,, honest,, i have lost count of the times i have crossed france and can not remember one single time i did not get pissed upon !!!

  6. I really like France and the people and after many thousands of miles over the years I still think it's safer than England. However, Spain does sound great especially up in the northern mountains. Will keep that in mind but my wife is pretty adamant that our next trip should include the region where we crashed. Probably head to Annacey then the mountains near Italy.

  7. Have you considered Australia? It's pretty rain free.

  8. no doubt fr is safer than uk,, but in uk you expect rain,, you dont go to fkn Fr to get wet !!,, btw,, Spain is great, not just the northern mountains,, everyehere is,, Andalucia is a dream , roads to remember all your life..
ps,, if you think / find Fr bike friendly , which i think we all do,, then you will find the Sp even more so,, they love mb there.

  10. Actually that's not a good idea as you would have to dodge kangaroos

  11. I moved here 12 years ago so that I could ride bikes all the year round without bothering with waterproofs. Believe me there is a lot less rain here than there was in East Anglia!
Col, feel free to come and see this area when you are up and about next time. We will be happy to spend as much time as you want showing you around on bike trips, eating at nice places, drinking loads of coffee and i promise that we won't take you on a toll road.
Have a look at www.facebook.com/dordognebikers and see if it interests you.

  20. We did the Auto train last year (and had planned to do it this year before the strikes), worked well and saved some seriously dull miles.
