PREVENTING EXHAUST PIPE BLUEING Exhaust system bluing is a result of high temperatures. A certain amount of bluing is normal and expected in the header pipe area just as it exits the head. This can be minimized by coating the inside of the header pipe with products readily available at many bike shops.
Polished pipes will discolour - stainless steel discolours noticeably with heat (they get hot - try touching them!), my 916 pipes are blue near the heads progressing to various shades of gold etc as it gets further away from the heat source . Perfectly normal...
OMG fujack all the Ducati's in those photies have Major fuelling issues, FIRKIN hellas like, my Ti system has gone blue mainly I think due to a grossly fooked injection error on the ecu. I may have to cease riding immediatley. Thanks for the heads up
Your very welcome there is nothing worse than worrying about something when your ment to be enjoying it
The multistrada is v lean in the 2-5ooo rpm area at low speeds (15.2 AFR ) and as a result blues the pipe. If the pipe is polished the blueing will look worse or shall i say better The race ecu will not help you because its the same . To cure the lean problem the o2 sensors must be eliminated and ecu remapped on the dyno. There are flashes about that "claim" to fix it We fix the issue and lower the fan temp . On the other hand i would not be worried into thinking your bike has a isolated issue or there is something wrong because i see many like this.
So if I was to bring a Ducati to you with a polished pipe or a TI system and paid you to remap it to stop it going blue would you guarantee it wouldn't go blue or you would refund 100% of the cost ??
Used to happen on most air cooled bikes with decent quality aftermarket headers - however it was usually slightly longer bluing on the center pipes of IL3s or 4s which always ran slightly hotter. If there is no bluing at all on the back cylinder you may want to get your lambda checked to check the mixture is OK. Otherwise something to check but not worry too much about, listen to CJS he knows what he is talking about.
