1260 Fuel Range Indicator Accuracy

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Bumpkin, Apr 19, 2019.

  1. This is what I've done with every bike I've owned, but given this was my first "almost to dry" run, I was a bit apprehensive as I wasn't sure whether the gauge is right, or the mileage I think I should get from a 20l tank on my commute with rough mpg would be right etc. I generally find the economy takes a real dive in the London sections but actually, the MTS has shone in these conditions compared to other commute bikes I've had. In fact, it's the motorway sections, in Germany obviously, when I get to 90+ (km/h obviously) where the economy really seems to dive. It is the first tall bike I've had so I guess the aerodynamics are the big difference.

Another oddity (but a good one) I've found with the MTS fuel gauge is that it starts dropping as you use it - i.e. it seems more accurate near the top. Most bikes I've had let you use 1/4 or 1/3 of a tank before the gauge moves at all. I'm just not sure about the accuracy at the bottom of the gauge!

But it's great to get 3 days commute from a tank, that was always my target. Given from this thread it looks like I should be able to put in 18l (where's the other 2!?!), it looks like I still had 2.5l to play with as well - which is good as traffic was light for these commutes and I was being a bit gentler with the throttle than I'd ideally like :)

  2. Just realised, I got almost exactly 10 miles per litre!

  3. Well I had 1 mile left on range - was petrified of being stranded for hrs on m1 I only managed to fill up to 16.18 L so had nearly 4 litres of fuel

  4. I'm terrible for trying to go too far on what I have left, mainly in my van, so I set a rule in my brain, if range says 50 miles remaining I put some in.

I've run out twice in my van, second time with 15 miles range remaining.
