The potential warranty risk is a consideration for sure. When it’s time for mine to have its next service I most likely will swap it back out.
Thanks Chuki...excellent write up....must admit since I started this post I have bought a very low mileage DVT with a full Race Termignoni System on so for now that should satisfy my need for noise until I decide what to do with the V4. Thankyou
Here's where I bought the Akra Race Ti exhaust for my '22 MTS V4 PP: https://www.omniaracing.net/impiant...ati-multistrada-v4v4s-2021-2023-p-225099.html They also uploaded my VIN into the Ducati system. When the exhaust was delivered to me, I brought it in to my US dealer and they installed the Akra exhaust w/UpMap S/W, as they were able to see my VIN associated with this exhaust in their system. Installation of this exhaust & UpMap did not affect the original 2-yr warranty.
Yes, the UpMap was included with the Akrapovic exhaust purchase, but as I mentioned, you still have to pay for the labor to flash the ECU at the dealer.
Ah- sorry I misread your "No separate charge for the UpMap" What was the process with the dealership did they just look up your VIN and saw that a pipe was purchased through Omnia?
Correct, after I purchased the exhaust from Omnia, I emailed my VIN # to them, and then they associated my VIN # with the exhaust purchase in the Ducati system. The local dealer then looked it up in the Ducati system, confirmed I had purchased the exhaust through an authorized reseller (OmniaRacing), and flashed my ECU with the UpMap. And, yes, even with the Race Ti Exhaust & UpMap, my Pikes Peak is still under warranty until May 2024.
Thank you, and assuming you saved a few bucks going the Omnia route, what was the turn around time to getting the system to your door?
The exhaust was ordered through OmniaRacing's ebay store on July 15, 2022. It was $2500 + $60 shipping + $253.44 tax + $79.50 duty. I received the exhaust on July 25, 2022. DHL shipped it to my residence in WA state from Italy in six (6) business days - not bad!
Awesome!! 6 days and with your total cost.... Not bad at all, local route is damn near $4K in the North East, Now I just have to find a dealer on my side thats willing to load the map (of course with a labor charge) and not give me any grief about refusing to do so because I didn't buy the system from them... never a dull moment with these dealerships
I've got a couple of Ducati Akro systems in stock I could sort you out a deal on. I'm assuming you want to fit? I can register your VIN etc. Drop me a PM if any use
Just remember a full system is not road legal , and you will need to inform your insurance otherwise they will not pay out in case of a claim as they will void the policy , be it a small claim or a big nasty one , so be warned to be honest not just lip service to suit your needs when insuring . I took mine off for that reason alone. The mot or police stop is fine but the void of insurance is a no go , life changer. There may be companies out there that may give you cover , but the pipe (full) is not for road use , closed circuit only. Just thought I would raise the point again as its nice to know. Dont ignore it as dealers will sell you the system but wont tell you that its not road leagal. Insurance will do anything to get out of a claim and if its a bad one , you will pay for it.
The original poster is a UK resident, so @Captain’s post is relevant. IIRC, Ducati America was at one point in time recently (in the last 3 or 4 years) raided by officials looking to prosecute them for supplying race exhausts for road bikes which, given the US being the home of HD seems ridiculous. Andy
yes valid point and something worth to take into consideration since we are living in a new world, in the US insurance carriers don't really enforce the subject being discussed here... riders get dinged mostly for noise compliance by local authorities who enforce it.. Like for this example if you were to get into an accident insurance will mostly look at DOT compliant equipment such as tires, lighting, and your PPE- if you're not compliant with any of the 3, it's an automatic claim denial- so far off road exhaust is not on their radar- Best of my knowledge off road exhaust is not on the insurance carriers radar yet- but I'm sure after reading this and some bright light bulb turns on with one of the bean counters it will be eventually part of the checklist to deny a claim..........But for now Freck it I'm getting one with the EVO map If it wasn't for DOT I'd be buying helmets overseas, much cheaper especially on sale, but saving a few bucks that can potentially bite you in the arse later is not worth it, at least to me
