1260 Funny Cloncking Noise From Below.....

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by pcn1, Mar 25, 2021.

  1. chain slap is what I hear on my 1260s when hitting a speed bump with throttle closed.

I say this, as a friend with a 1260s was riding next to me when we went over the speed bump, and I observed the chain on his 1260s hitting the swing arm when not under load.

  2. I think the top one is held on with a pair of screws. I don't recall having to remove anything significant to change it.
It didnt cost very much either, about 10 quid I think.
There is one on the bottom side too, but mine wasnt very worn.

I was pretty annoyed when I noticed it had worn through on my bike, as its always been dealer serviced and they hadnt mentioned it was getting bad until I asked about it. Then they said oh yes, that happens a lot : unamused:

  3. Hi, Indeed. Also had a 1260S and it was extremely irritating. Potholes, or rutted roads were a nightmare. Also the dealer was unable to locate the source of the noise until we setup a go-pro next to a piece of 5cm x 5cm angle iron over which I rode a number of times at between 10km/h and 30km/h. The go-pro captured the chainslap and noise. The chain hits the bottom of the swingarm. We then pulled the chain as tight as humanly possible, and although it then made less of a racket, we were unable to eliminate it. The second thing that irritated the sh1t out of me, was the clattering noise the DVT makes when one is in to high a gear at too low a speed, let's say, in 3rd instead of in 2nd and one snaps the throttle open. This bike of mine was stolen and I proceeded to replace it with the 950S and I have not been sorry for a single second.

  4. The clattering noise would be entirely down to the rider selecting the wrong gear!

Perhaps you don’t understand the fundamentals of twin cylinder motorcycles and a gear box?

(You could maybe try pulling away with full throttle in 5th next time, I’m sure it would be fine…)

  5. Listen mate, I've had plenty motorbikes and probably understand the fundamentals of the internal combustion engine and associated gearbox better than you. So why don't you just go fuck yourself seeing that I don't remember asking for your advise or opinion. And remember, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

  7. Ooohhh what a response!

So you are saying you get a clattering noise when you pull away in 3rd (when you said you should be in 2nd)?

Well of course you would, which bit of your extensive gearbox and engine experience leads you to think this would not happen?

Anyway glad you’ve got a new bike you are happy with. Luckily when you an old fart like me you go deaf so you don’t hear those clonking noises! :upyeah:
