Garage Security...

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by jamesgarnor, Oct 2, 2020.

  1. Security light over garage door, Xena XA201 Zone Alarm In garage. £24 on flea bay 130db.
Ground anchor 2x oxford chains, bike alarm and tracker.
Add to that electric gates on the drive.
They will need to be quick and determined to steal my bike.

  2. I have a nest camera in mine that I poached from work. I connects to my house wifi as its within range. Now I get alerts when spiders and moths become fascinated by the wee green led.

  3. I fitted an Arlo system connected to the WiFi
My garages are over the road from my house so I mounted a camera and floodlight on the apex of the roof.
You can alter the field of scope and set to only alert you to human activity, cutting out animal and vehicular movements, plus it’s solar powered.

  4. if the wiring is on your main wiring circuit you can use powerline ethernet's to give you LAN access in the shed, the Netgear products will range extend to give you a wifi signal that's router quality in the shed that you can use when you are in there hiding from the missus and kids *Cough* I mean when you are doing essential shed jobs.

I think Camera's aren't a bad start providing they have suitable cover and nightime viewing capability but they really only are going to be used for providing some evidence of how many tea leaves turned up to steal the bike, not for much more. Layers of security are the way to go. I once read an article I think on Visordown from an ex bike thief and he said the ONLY thing that really puts them off is alarmed disc locks, he said they are a pain, they are the slowest to remove and if there are two then they might just leave that one if it's a common bike. If you go down that route don't buy an Oxford Monster, as it's a pile of junk, me and two of my mates had them and within a few months they start randomly going off all the time and with 120Db it quickly makes you less than popular...

  5. In the time since I last posted the flood light camera combo had deterred two potential break-ins.

  9. I was thinking more that it started in 2020 and stayed there until the blatant single post advert in December!
