  2. The Garmin would be in its cradle which is direct wired to the battery. But the unit would be turned off, would it still take current from the battery (no led on the cradle ) my mind says no current draw due to the unit being turned off but a big but if it wrong it all goes Pete tonge in the morning :weary: it would end in:sob::sob:
As I be heading down to your end of the woods Bob just in case can I borrow a battery charger

  3. Yes, because I bet the battery will still charge with the unit off. Same as plugging your mobile in whilst off, it will still draw and charge.

  4. Yes indeed it does looks like a relay or take it out the simple option take it out but I fear the need to tinker with a relay, just hope it won't end in a school boy error realisation

  5. Relays are easy enough. They have spade terminals on them so you can just crimp away unless you particularly want to solder for the extra piece of mind. No SatNav feed on the bike?

  6. Nope it's my 749

  7. For the sake of a couple of ££, grab a relay. Easy to wire up and if you leave yourself plenty of slack and your wiring does come loose (not that it should, have some faith in yourself) you can always snip and connect to the battery mid tour.

  8. on my 749 i run a multi cigerette lighter socket hot wired to the battery ( optimiser tail ) and run usb s for sat nav , phone , gopro etc etc ( 3 sockets ) from that , ok i have to remember to disconnect it but it is easy enough to unplug.

  9. Surely a relay won't switch the feed off if it's wired direct to the battery, as the power will be constant.

  10. Just to confirm, Garmin will draw current to charge if it is turned off and connected to your bike battery. Once full it shall stop drawing. Your bike battery has around 15 to 20 times the capacity of the Garmin battery. If you remove the Garmin there is no draw. If you are worried the Relay wired to the ignition shall stop all of the above. So relay coil takes a feed of an ignition point (light) Relay contact feeds the Garmin
