agreed. and don't get me wrong ... i really like and enjoy using some mobile apps on my iPhone when i do have reception ... specifically Waze.
Just bought a zumo XT after using my phone as nav for a year or so, previous to that I had a zumo 660. The XT is night and day better than the 660, and after a 260 mile round trip today in bright sunshine it was fabulous. Even my pal who was using his phone gave up and left the navigation to me. Such a great screen in bright sunlight, but then I have got to many birthdays behind me effecting my tired old eyes. But I’m really glad I made the jump and bought the XT it’s a great navigation device You won’t regret it if your on the fence
Glad they matched the deal, the deal I got was from Helmet city back at Easter so bloody good that Sportsbikeshop matched it! Happy days mate!
I just cannot see the need unless you are going off road. I can still get navigation with no cell signal (Android) and google maps offline. My maps are always updated. including closures and construction. Plus one less thing to carry. If you could only take one, which would it be? To each his own. my Maps/Offline Maps/Waze combo isnt perfect but it is close Rex
Yep SportBikeShop have a price-match field at on their product pages. I have an account with both SBS and HC but the latter always refuses to let me renew my password for some reason so they lost the business to the former. I use Android Auto in the car but I find phone nav fiddly and frustrating on the bike, have tried it. Screen doesn't work with gloves, phone calls interrupt nav function, power options tend to be fragile with lead/port failure common. I tend to plan my routes over winter for European tours on my PC and upload to my GPS, the planning integration is important to me. Routes shared with friends whom I ride with and have Garmins mean we're all singing from the same song sheet. As you say; each to their own
Thats good to hear, bought one during lockdown and haven't tried it yet. Did you hear I fitted a link pipe for the D193...
still awaiting my Zumo XT to ship from the retailer ... they have advised Garmin has delayed all shipments to retailers until June 25th, due to COVID-19. all good things come to those who wait ... i suppose.
Just trying to help by suggesting this supplier is quick so you don't have to wait for weeks if youre in a rush. I'll not bother next time eh
Fitted mine to the existing Ducati mount (with @Desmo Dave AMPs plate) from my outgoing Zumo 590 this afternoon Had to de-solder plug for the power feed from the old cradle and then solder that to the new one, route the cable and attach the new cradle. The loom for the XT is far too long but has the transformer lump in it so annoyingly had to coil and cable-tie the excess lead out of the way in the left side fairing. Test in the morning as I have a meeting to attend.
i was not trying to be a twat ... i am genuinely happy for you, as you found a retailer that had current inventory and they got the Zumo to you ASAP. i am ok with waiting, as i got a big discount off MSRP and MAP. so, truly bravo to you ...
A note re. SportsBikeShop, if ordering from there be sure to challenge them on price match with Helmet City who are genuinely giving 20% off at the moment... or were... They are aware as I ordered one from them the other day and they matched price.
Do you think they will add the tire pressure readings as a software update/new model? As it’s the only thing preventing me from hitting the buy button
no worries amico ... context is often lost online ... BTW, you will know when i am being a twat ... it's pretty blatant ;-)
