Storm in a molehill comes to mind - for the record OP's bike is a 748S - 749/999 bikes have an entirely different loom run which I believe is less problematic the details of which can be found on 749/999 specific threads. There is nothing wrong with the actual route/run of the regulator to alternator loom on a 916/748/996, it is all down to the size and quality of the wiring and the connector which were 'adequate' when new but would often reveal themselves eventually as under par due to aging and corrosion.
