First concert- Can't remeember! Last concert- Belinda Carlisle four days ago in Portsmouth. She's still lovely! Best concert - Pet Shop Boys, Hull last year perhaps? Not sure if it was because it had been so long since I'd been to a gig due to Covid and had so many cancelled but i really enjoyed it. Eddie Reader in a small venue in Congleton deserves a mention though, as did Natalie Imbrulia in Glasgow recently. Worst concert - Possibly Meatloaf in Home Park, Plymouth. While I'm pleased i got to see him he wasn't at his best and struggled in my opinion. Seen the most - Probably Gilbert O'Sullivan or the aforementioned Ms Carlisle. I worked it out and i think I'm a bit of a groupie! (Did I mention she's lovely?) Most surprising - Whichever of the Gallagher brothers opened at the Taylor Hawkings Tribute Concert this year. I find them both pretty obnoxious but he was brilliant! Loudest -A group i saw in Bolton many years ago. Can't remember their name but one song went along the lines of 'Paddy is a twat he's a f@@@ing fat twat, can't fit through the door of his council flat he's too fat for that'. I looked in the charts lists for a while after but it didn't seem to be there. Odd that... (Just remembered, they were called 'Badger') Next concert......Primatives, booked and ready! Wish I could have seen - Queen (with Freddie Mercury) - without a doubt. My other half and i row over if the current line up is Queen as in theory it's still 75% the original line up but it's more than that in my opinion. That however is a different thread and a different discussion!
How about an additional category - Most embarrassing to admit to? I'll lead... NKOTB, Jan 24th 2009 at the O2 in London. To make this worse.... NKOTB, Jan 25th 2009 in Hammersmith Apollo. My good lady wife (now a good lady ex wife) was a huge fan and it was her birthday at the time. Perhaps most embarrassingly i didn't think they were too bad....
First concert – The Sweet – Hammersmith Odeon Last concert – Miss Baby Sol Best concert – Led Zeppelin - Knebworth Worst concert – Busted / McFly – Forced to go with my daughter Loudest concert – Motorhead – Bingley Hall Most surprising – Placebo – Reading Festival Next concert – No Idea Wish I could have seen – AC/DC with Bon Scott
Update on the next concert; it's now Who's Who at the Half Moon in Putney, and I've also booked for The Who at the O2 Doesn't look like I've dodged George Ezra yet though...
First - Kent Custom Bike Show Stowting Common 1986, Dr Feelgood were Mesmerising and a bottle of Merrydown Cider helped. Last - Joe Bonamassa Sheffield 2018 ? I need to get out more. Loudest and Best - Iron Maiden at the Bol D'Or, Circuit Paul Ricard 1991. Seen most Wilko Johnson. Rory Gallagher at Freewheels Rally Cunlaht France early 90s was also bloody good. Wish I had seen Queen, and Jeff Healey (missed the bus for that one cos my mate made us late). Worst was Chuck Berry at Lincoln Ritz but he was never that good anyway
New next is Who’s Who at the Half Moon in Putney. And Rod Stewart at Edinburgh Castle is on the list.
Recently watched Stop Making Sense with Talking Heads again and I’d forgotten how good it is. That must have been a great concert to have been at. The way they start off with the blank stage and build it up, simple lighting effects and David Byrne’s performance is mesmerising. Tina Weymouth’s bass playing is incredible, it drives almost every one of their songs.
It was brilliant live, I've seen him since and he never ceases to amaze. I think I rate him along side Bowie and Roxy Music as the most influencial artists of my lifetime.
